Question about 2006 Cadillac SRX

06 srx starts but dies

Started missing and check engine light started flashing so I checked the codes and it said number 4 cylinder 4 was miss firing so I changed the plug and swapped the number 4 and number 1 coil packs to see if it was the coil pack and know it will start but then dies but if you keep you foot on the gas it will run for a minute or two but it runs rough I tried unhooking the battery for 20 minutes to reset the computer and turned the key on for 10 minutes to reset the security system and nothing has helped

The thing that makes this easy is the fact that the check engine light came on when the problem started. This is telling you that you have a fault code that will diagnose your issue.. You can take the car to a national parts chain such as Advance or Auto Zone and they will read and interpret your codes at no charge in hopes of subsequently selling you the part that is causing your trouble. It sure is. If a plug is truly wet, the energy for the spark will travel through the moisture, rather than across the gap. The fuel air mixture flowing into and out of the cylinder serves to ventilate the cylinder, drying the plug.

Plus, that air is preheated, so that would accelerate the drying once warming up got underway.

You really need to have that head gasket replaced. If this questionable repair gives way (and it almost certainly will), you can get enough water in the cylinder to start breaking things on startup without any warning.

A miss #4 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plug or wire
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Running out of fuel
* Poor compression
* Defective computer

If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back. If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

A couple of things you need to check here. First make sure you don't have any vacuum hoses unplugged. Next make sure the throttle blade closes all the way. It is probably not either of those things but you need to make sure. Next remove the Iac valve from the throttle body. It is on the side facing the front higher than the tps sensor. It has a 4 wire connector. Make sure this is clean. If it is not clean it. This valve controls the idle speed. After cleaning it turn the ignition on with the engine off. The IAC shouldmove in and out to find the stops. If it does not move you have either bad wiring, IAC (Idle Air Control valve) or PCM.

Does the IAC move back and forth? Also does your Throttle blade close all the way? The throttle blade is inside the Throttle Body. Take off the rubber intake hose and look inside the blade should be closed. Check to see if the IAC is moving by taking it out. hook up the connector and turn the ignition on with the engine off. The IAC should move in and out to learn the stops.

If the blade is open It is stuck. Check the throttle cable to make sure you have slack. If there is slack and the blade won't close try cleaning it to free the blade up. If there is no slack remove the cable from the blade to see if it closes farther. If it does your cable is bad. I still think your IDLE system is more likely though.

If nothign occurs, that is not the throttle blade. You need to check the IAC. Also try while the engine is abnormally idling high wiggle the connector at the IAC. If that doesn't work you need to check the wires from the PCM to the IAC, it could also be a bad PCM driver. You diagnose a PCM by eliminating everything else.

catalytic converter is the issue then. if your catalytic converter has a leak, meaning theres a leak on fuel too which was not burned-out thouroughly sometimes cause fire at the exhaust.... spark plugs needed. or if not distributor cap before rotor.

PO300 code


Code 300 means you have a random miss that is not serious enough to pick one cylinder. The computer measures RPM on each cylinder as the plug fires. So it is not that a cylinder is not firing but rather that it is not producing enough power.
Other causes are vac leaks and lack of fuel.

There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

Get the compression test done on each coil.these will let you know if its faulty coil or not.

Car is sluggish, Low Acceleration, Check engine light flashes, Code reader indicates #1cylinder is out


Of course your car is sluggish, cylinder number one is misfiring, that is why the flashing check engine light, if you continue to drive this car this way you risk the exhayst system overheating and starting a fire. Ge the car tested for the cause of the misfire asap.
