if you look at nthe picture above you will see the direct drive clutch, when the transmission shifts into 3rd gear this is the clutch that ingauges, and when it does it starts spinning the direct drive hub and there is a groop of bearings on this hub that only turn when the transmission is in 3rd gear so you must have a pice of one of the bearings broken ( if you remove the transmission oil pan you will probley find the pice that broke off ) now every time that bearing turns it will click when the ruff spot tuches the bearing support, there is no eazy fix the problem will only get worse untill the bearing completly fails and when this happens the transmission will fail and will need to be replaced....sorry

let me know if there i any thing else you need.

My 03' yukon 5.3 won't shift from 2nd to 3rd without releasing the accelerator. Any ideas that may be causing the problem. Had trans. Checked, mechanic says trans. Is ok

Vacuum modulator is probably bad. A sticking shift solenoid inside the transmission will do it too. A bad transmission control module will cause it too. Your mechanic wasn't thorough enough when he checked the transmission.

Would transmission control module cause transmission to shift from 1st to 2nd and them not accelerate

Yes it can. But have the codes read. It could be just a bad shift solenoid. Better to have it diagnosed. Takes a scanner. The TCM and PCM are the same computer.

When my 2001 GMC Yukon tries to shift into 3rd gear or overdrive - it is like it goes into nutral. It never shifts to 3rd. 1st and 2nd gears does just fine.

this sounds like the pressure valve is going bad on third gear. cheap fix try Lucus transmission additive to increase the pressure.
To do it right go to a good transmission shop an have it serviced and flushed.

Transmission shifts down abruptly when accelerating.

It most likely is a transmission issue, a internal issue inside the transmission.

sounds like it may be either a converter problem or u got some bad clutches in third in the case you need to go to a tranny shop.

Hard shift and blinking overdrive

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.
