Question about Honda Accord
The battery light came on when I started the car but it's making a loud whining noise. is it drive able?
No web bunny can answer that, he cant touch it, see it, hear it or do tests.
my best guess. is the Alternator front bearing is burned to a crips
whines and the bouncing shaft beat the slip ring brushes inside
or the belt fell off, and is dangling inside and is touching a pulley and making racket.
open the hood, have any mech. look there, see if the belt is bad
or the front bearing on the ALT is toast
i use a $5 sethoscope (Dr. like) and listen, yup, bearing is screaming
all in 3 min. flat.

I had the same problem at about the same mileage. Replaced the power steering pump and the start up screaming went away! ( The Jeep's and mine!)

SOURCE: Whining noise from engine
altho new you may have a whining water pump or tensioner or it may be over tensioned.
take a long screw driver & place in on the timing cover to try to here where the noise is coming from, this should help you find the proplem with the car

The whine is most likely your power steering pump. Check the fluid in the pump. If you are low on power steering fluid you may have a leaking hose or fitting or the seals in the pump may have began leaaking. If you continue to run the auto without power steering fluid you will burn up the power steering pump very quickly.

It sounds like a condenser in your alternator that works like an isolation transformer in stereo equipment to stop a ground loop between two components. Its allowing a frequency to just pass thru without stopping it at the source.
