Timing marks for nissan pickup petrol engine j21

I can't remember if the j21 has a single or twin cams, but here is a solution if you haven't taken the old timing chain off yet.
Take off the timing cover and the camshaft cover. Remove all spark plugs. Place a wire (welding rod or a piece of an old wire coat hanger) into the n;umber one plug hole - this is the plug for no. 1 cylinder, the cylinder nearest the radiator.
Turn the engine until the exhaust valve just closes and the intake valve just opens. This is referred to as the valves "rocking". At this point the wire should be right at the top of the piston stroke, and the number one piston is timed to take in gas on the down stroke, that is, the intake stroke.
At this point you should see the timing marks on the timing gears and their relationship to one another. The marks are either dots on the gear teeth, or marks on the camshaft which line up with marks on the cylinder head. These marks line up when the crankshaft is at top dead center, which is the position you turned the crank to while feeling the position of the piston with the wire.
I wish you well, good luck.

Can some one show me timeing mark on 1997 nissan maxima please

wow a Nissan Camry.
what engine, ??????????
what are you doing, we dont know. so..
cam marks? chain marks?
spark timing?

in 1997, most cars have 6 or more marks.

Nissan V6? is it (guessing i am)
if doing major cam work , you will need far more that just mark data.

if doing serious work, i recommend the below
  1. a real FSM, from NISSAN if Nissan.
  2. alldata.com
warning:1
all nissan engines are All Interference
so doing cam work or finding engine dead,
do a leak down test by hand before cranking engine
or bend the valves.
after replacing chain, do a cyl. leak down test (a tool)
and if it fails, the valves were bent, do not crank engine
or the damage WILL cascade $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Timing mark crankshaft

15 degrees btcd is too far advanced for a normal engine . If you have the mark at 15 aftdc then it will run with no power and will overheat and burn valves
on the timing plate there will numbers on either side of a large line . That is top dead centre . What you are after is 10 degrees before the mark on the balance reaches that big line .. IT will be graduated in 5 degrees bits.

I have a nissan interstar 2.5 2005 model. The cam belt broke 3 weeks ago and I asked a mechanic to sort it out. He eventualy got it back together but now he has spent 4 days trying to start it. The engine...

Well the first thing is to do a compression test, too make sure that when your belt poped no valves got bent, i think you will see that theres low or no compression in some cylinder from bent valve, if so then have the head removed and repaired, if it has compression then its not the valves, i would triple check the timing marks and make sure the correct marks are being used, you may want to do this before the test, hope this helps.
