When riding my arctic cat 300 .. It tends to slip

When riding my arctic cat 300 .. It tends to slip out of the gear and grind like hell every time I hit the gas regardless of what gear it's in it does it from 1st to 5th when it wants to .. But then I will put it in neutral and push it a little ways and it will run and shift through the gears properly for a little while then happens again.. What's going on??

Could it be a worn throwout bearing? Just a guess.

SOURCE: cannot shift properly

My Saturn did the same thing - twice. Where the clutch cables connects to the shifter box(??) there is a little clip that had fallen off. The first time this happened, the mechanic told me that I needed to replace the whole shifter box - costing me $400 dollars. The second time - about two years later a different mechanic charged me $15 for the clip and labor.

SOURCE: 5th. Gear

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.

Purchase a gear shift repair kit for your car. They are pretty cheap. About 20 bucs. The ball and bushings are probably worn.

2002 Arctic Cat 375 starts but won't continue to run?

Try running it with the choke partially on. Most Arctic Cats are jetted for higher altitude operation from the factory and need a larger main jet installed. Partially closing the choke will make it operate until you can get the carb rebuilt with a larger jet.

1998 arctic cat 300..... hard to shift you have to

I do not know much if anything about an arctic cat but if you have a shifter you have some kind of a transmission and if you need to get it into gear or neutral but cannot do so without rocking the machine or the shifter back and forth a slipping clutch would not likely have anything to do with the problem. You likely should not be trying to shift gears with the clutch engaged and the clutch normally should be FULLY slipping ie completely disengaged when you are shifting. It sounds like you could have sticking shifter linkage parts, worn shifter parts or internal transmission parts, bent shifter forks, worn shifter cam or drum grooves or shifter fork pins or other worn parts or maybe even low or no transmission fluid.

Gear box making niose

May seem obvious but its your gear box, if you can successfully shift into first, slowly release clutch without hitting the gas your engine should slowly wind down and bog out, if it does it immediately without a winddown it could be clutch but generally any grinding when slipping into gear is a sign your gearbox needs replacing

I have a 1998 explorer with 4.0 sohc vin E it shifts fine if you accelerate gradually but when u press down hard on gas like in a get the hell out of the way in traffic situation it feels to be slipping...

if your are expeirencing tranny slippage your tranny is on its way out...its only a matter of time before it goes... you can ride it out until it goes or u can either replace it with one from ten junkyard or get it rebuild.

What would cause a grinding noise in the front part of a motor sounds like gears grinding

generally if this vehicle is equipped with a timing chain and gears that would be suspect...the chain/tensioners wearing out...possible water pump bushing but you should see a fan blade wobble or signs of coolant leaking from below...I have seen A/C compressor clutches coming apart that create one hell of a noise before they let loose.... even serpntine belt tensioners can have bearing problems and sound like hell. Good luck hope this helps!! John

Try changing the fluid in the transmission first this may solve it, if you are not sure when it was changed.

2006 chrysler 300 transmission slips

Low on transmission fluid. The tranny fluid can only be checked by Chrysler, there is no dip stick, because you have to know the motor temp to be able to know where the fluid should register on the dip stick. Crazy!
Its not slipping now, but shifts hard. Has to be looked at by Chrysler again, but its done this since Ive had it, so I didnt realize it was a problem....
