Question about Cars & Trucks

3 Answers

I have a 97 Yukon that we just replaced the motor in, since then it will not start but yet it was getting spark and fuel. We checked the fuel pressure and it was at 10psi - we replaced the fuel pump, sending unit and fuel filter and it is still only getting 20psi - we are stumped and have no idea why it still is not producing enough pressure to fire - can you help me please?

Bad fuel pressure regulator? Or vacuum tube not connected? But what do I know, this guy seems to know about these things.

It may be a bad fuel pressure regulator, or did you test that when checking fuel pressure? A single pressure line from the pump inlet through the external fuel filter and into the fuel rail at the engine- if no blockage or restriction in the line, then the pressure regulator must be at fault. If the regulator is hard to get to, like under the intake manifold, you might want to open the line at some place after the fuel filter and check volume flow into a large container. Be careful, fuel under pressure can go everywhere, it's really dangerous and toxic. Use safety first and last.

Check for a bad distributor cap and or rotor..........a bad cap and or rotor can caues firing (cross fire)across the terminals and introduce spark to the wrong cylinders at the wrong time.......
hope this helps.....good luck!

SOURCE: 1992 Pace Arrow Motor Home 454 Chevy...not getting fuel to start

After you dump the fuel in the throttle body it will continue to run on its own or die as soon as it burns up all the fuel you dump in? Do you have access to (Noid lights)? Are both plugs attached to the distributor?

The # 5 cylinder is miss firing. not getting fuel. Could the injector just be stopped or the crankshaft sensor in gone.

Have 97 yukon on hot days going uphill then stoping for awhile it wont start but let set for awhile it will start is this vapor lock and what can i do

Most fuel injected vehicles no longer experience vapor lock, since fuel circulates continuously thru the fuel rail and back to the tank. More likely, you have an electrical part which gets hot once you shut the truck off. You need to test for spark to the plugs, and also correct fuel pressure when it fails to start and see which is lacking.

98 Yukon won't start. There is power but it won't turnover.

R U sure your fuel pump is working? Can U hear it load and unload fuel pressure by
turning the key on and off? If you don't hear the fuel pump check the fuel pump
relay. Swap out the relay. You need to make sure the battery is charged. I
believe if the battery is less than 9 volts it will not start. You need to
check the fuel pressure while cranking. If U have a timing light check each
plug independently to make sure they are firing correctly. U should see a consistent
rhythm of flashing light. No need to point light at anything, just make sure it
is consistent.

Not knowing how much U have check already. Start with the basics. I installed new distributor,
rotor, and spark plus in both my 97 & 97 gmc 5.7L trucks. Five months later
I started to have problems with both about a week apart to a point I couldn't
get it to even start. I had bought the fancy Bosch 4 prong spark plugs. I did
the timing light thing and discovered that the distributor was jumping time due
to fowling inside the cap. I went back to the standard AC Delco products. I my
opinion is the pins in the cap are made with some metal material that corrodes
easily.

2000 Yukon denali having trouble starting. Sounds flooded. After it sits awhile it will start. Replaced fuel pump. Still having problem. Security light is on. Replaced ignition switch. Please advise.

If it is flooding, fuel is not the problem.Sorry you did a pump already. You need to check spark and air,I would start with spark.Check your plugs for spark. If they all spark normal, that also means the ignition coil is good. That leaves air.Check the filter and intake hose for leaks, holes, etc.I would guess spark, but you never know what you'll find.If you are not 100% sure how to check spark, sounds like you probably do though, just comment on this post and I get an auto email linked to here and tell you the best method.Good luck! Won't start, not battery 2007 gmc yukon denali with 70,000 miles

You didn't say if it crankes over if it dose check for spark. If you have no spark replace your distriburator modual. Also check for fuel pressure no fuel pressure may need a fuel pump in fuel tank hope this helps CJ

I have a 1999 gmc Yukon it is getting fuel and spark i even sprayed starter fluid in the intake but it still wont start it turns over good but wont start

ok make sure you have good fuel pressure
you must have good spark must fire a spark tester
if all that is good then check compression
and don't use STARTER FLUID on a GAS ENGINE it can blow a hole through the piston
hope this helps
