Question about 2002 Saturn L-Series

2 Answers

I have an 2003 saturn Vue V6 Cylinder 3.0L. My problem is leaking oil from oil filter cap. I have taken oil filter cap off, cleaned around housing and replaced filter and O-ring. Put cap on and tightened. One thing I have noticed when I tightened cap it will go so much and stop. I mean normaly when you tighten a bolt you can fell it get tight and then you can turn a little more and feel it get tight. But with this cap it gets to a point and you can't turn anymore, not even one 1/4 one 1/8. Anyone else have this happen?

Could be pcv to hear ball inside rattles when you shake it . if not free it will cause pressure to build in crankcase an it releases thru any where it can......oil filler cap. thats why the filter is there..escape path for pcv failure.

Sounds like you have too much Crankcase pressure. Check to see if your PCV valve is functioning.

SOURCE: oil leaking into cooling system but no coolant in

Looks like a head gasket failure. Oil is escaping out of the engine and within the engine into the coolant passageways. The oil pressure system is run at higher pressure than the coolant pressure and fortunately this has so far kept the water from entering the oil and crankcase. I have no faith at all in any after-market product that claims it can repair leaks by simply adding it to the coolant or oil and taking a head off is not a trivial task. It may also be that the head has warped (this would also cause the leak) and this in turn will require it to be re-machined. Head gaskets are not expensive but due to the work involved this could be one occasion when a visit to a machine shop is the best option.

What is the average labor time to do the head gaskets, water pump, and timing belt set on a 2003 Sarurn Vue v6?

I have to say head gaskets on a 3.0L VUE is very uncommon. Perhaps you could have the shop who is working on it explain it better and you could follow up because I have seen exactly 1 VUE 3.0L head gasket leak.

Labor to do the water pump and timing belt should be around 4 hours. Maybe a little more if the water pump leaked and made a mess they need to clean up.

How do you remove a oil filter cap when its stuck?

First make sure you have the right tool to remove it and try again and make sure you turn counterclockwise (yeah.. it happens), then if it is a plastic oil filter cap you can try to heat it with a hair dryer , it should do the job. Plastic cap are not supposed to get stuck ; or it was dirty when put back, or the O ring broke and the cap got stuck, if you can't take it off at all have a quick run to the garage they'll remove it for you.

I have oil leaking out of the exhaust manifold stud on my 2003 3.0 Saturn Vue. As crazy as this sounds I cleaned the whole area fully and when the motors starts you can see oil and bubbles coming around...

Apperently one of your gaskets has gone bad. Do you hear any exhaust noises, like ticking? I suspect the intake manifold gasket is leaking and the oil is running down to the stud.
