SOURCE: how to disconnect alarm on s type jag? When trying to start car the alarm starts and kills the engine

if you look under the dash to the left of the brake pedal... you should see your fuse panel... above the there should be a black or gray box w/ two sets of wires coming from it ... both sets of wires have inline fuses... try pulling out either of those fuses one at a time , ie. pull one fuse try to start the car if the alarm still goes off replace that fuse and try the other one... this should disable the alarm on your car.

Fault codes are listed in the technical handbook, no good to you as it's a Jaguar service item unless you can get a copy of JTIS from ebay etc.

Fault Code:- P1638 Indicates a Power-train fault

The fault is generally due to a problem in the Computer & Output Circuit area

Fault Description: CAN ECM / INST network malfunction

Action of ECM:- none

After clearing the DTC, complete the Ignition ON 10 seconds
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.

Possible Fault:- CAN open circuit fault - INST to ECM CAN short circuit fault INST failure ECM failure D

Recharged battery on my 2006 HHR and the power steering doesn't work. I can turn my steering wheel without a fight.

Unless they have gone to electric power assist on the power steering, should be no correlation.

However, is your accessory belt for running your alternator and power steering pump ok? Is it tight enough.

While an electrical issue should not affect the power steering, a loose or missing belt could cause the (1) alternator to not properly charge the battery and (2) the power steering to not have power.

Loss of power when trying to exellerate after recharging battery

Not familiar with the Lexus but happend to me with a Mazda. Disconnect the battery and let sit for 30 minutes. Reconnect and see if that helps. If not, you'll have to have your codes cleared by someone with a diagnostics machine.
