You probably need to replace the coil. Sounds like it's bad.

Coils do not have spark on 1997 Chevy lumina 3.1

Sounds like a bad crank sensor. It is needed to properly tell the firing order of vehicle. if the wrong signal it will not start. and to tell the coils to fire, If the coils have power to them and not sending it to plugs, Theres a possibility that the ignition module is bad! Check for cracks under or on bottom of coils. The ignition module is located under coil packs on most vehicles. Good-Day!

I just rebuilt a 2.5 4 cyl jeep motor for a 89 jeep and it back fires though the throttle body

it's timed wrong. (EFI or carb. on the old jeep, In USA they are EFI)
1: cam timing
2: or spark (timing set wrong or firing order wrong to coil)
or both.
did you use an FSM> and read the pages on that.?

george, 1st did you replace the fuel filter , take it off and shake it and dump it out into a bowl to see whats going on in your fuel tank, then a pressure fuel test would be nice, and then a spark test.. could be coil or the tfi on the distributor .

Have a Ford Escape 2005... Coil packs C and D were bad ...now check engine light on and seems like it is trying to backfire through my intake????

Hello, Were the coils changed? Perhaps the wrong wire was put on the wrong plug. You need to somehow scan the engine to find the defect and to clear the computer. It sounds like the engine is trying to fire when the piston is in the wrong place.

If you did not have any work done yet, then the spark from the bad coil is going somewhere else and firing a cylinder out of time. This can happen when the sparks jump. You can temporarily use cardboard as an insulator around a plug to keep the spark from jumping. The cardboard will burn from the heat, but in testing it will identify an open wire.

I bought a 98 vw jetta glx vr6 2.8 it has been parked for 2 years untouched due too previous owner installing ignition coil wrong and short circuiting it. once i bought it i installed the ignition coil...

Try depressing gas pedal halfway. If that helps it start, then check out the engine coolant temp sensor. If the sensor is off or corroded, the computer won't feed enuf gas.

I think my spark plugs are in wrong, whats the firing order?

firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6

Asyou face the front of the car,
Cylinders are numbered like this:
1 2 3
4 5 6
(#1 is on the passenger side near the firewall.)

They should be Coil-over-plug.... no plug wires.
I'm curious, how do you get the firing order wrong?

Engine will not start. Coil is firing when

If coil is good and plugs are not - there's your problem. You can't have output of coil be good and plugs not work right. Something inbetween is wrong.

I assume this has 8 coils, the one you are checking,is it the right one, have you located the exact cylinder miss fire?I believe,if I am not wrong,it has two coils per cylinder,It is showing this on the code.It is the primary coil, coil A ,the secondary coil is not showing up,any way, it is showing that the boot on the coil is leaking, and not sparking the spark plug.Let me know if I can help.
