Car not starting, whirring once ignition engaged

I changed my spark plugs and wires today and now my car won't start. No clicking when key i turned. Car starts whirring softly when ignition is on, no change when cranked. When turned off the whirring stops and makes 3 soft clicking sounds. Two months ago when I was changing the plugs for the first time one of the coil springs stayed attached to the spark plug so I din't change that spark plug and changed the other three. Car started rough at first then no problems until now. Car had a really rough idle so I thought the wire change would address that.. Also my one of the cables on my starter ( the one that you push on to the little metal sliver) is hard to slip on so sometimes it pops off. This happened yesterday and I jacked it up and slipped it back on. THe whirring noise continues even when I disconnect said starter wire so hopefully that rules the starter out. Battery is at 12.7 vlts. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    @Brad Brown Thanks very much for your insight. Whats a heli coil? Sorry. When the starter was out yesterday there was no sound at all when I turned the key, now it has the slight whirring noise, even when the starter is disconnected. I have the battery charging and to test the neutral switch thing I just put it in neutral and crank? And I often run the car on low fuel(unforgivably), so that would mess up the fuel pump I'm guessing. Does the fuel pump require a shop fix?

    @ Brand Brown Looked it up, hasn't been heli coiled to my knowledge.

    heli coil... heli is short for helical (spring or screw shaped)

    I think the heli coil he is refering to is the lock washer looking device at the base of the spark plug

    oh they had the little washers on them, the only hing different about the plugs is that I had to manually screw on the little metal tip at the opposite end of the sparking part. Fist time it came unscrewed for me.

    When you said coil springs stayed attached to the spark plugs, it was my impression that the spring was on the threaded part of the plug that screws into the block

    Sorry no, it was the the little metal clamp inside the coil that stayed attached to the opposite end of the threaded part.

Check the obvious. Shift to park (also try neutral) If you jump from the battery to the starter directly if it turns then you may need to replace the solenoid. It may also be an ignition that needs to be replaced.

So the head has been heli coiled because of a stripped spark plug hole? I dont know why you are changing spark plugs so often. In any case, the rough idle was from the plug that has the heli coil. it is not sealing all the way. The description you give now leads me to believe that the sound is from the fuel pump of another motor sensor. The first thing to do is check the battery and all the cables. If you are turning the key and it wont crank at all, there is either a problem with that wire on the starter or an issue with the nuetral switch or something similar.

with the battery fully charged try scraping the positive over the terminal on the battery and see if it sparks like a draw is sucking out amps if theres no draw on the battery it wont spark at all (good) if it sparks (bad) you have something grounded and killing your battery.. gl

SOURCE: the check engine light comes on and then the engine dies

If you check under the hood and see if the fuel pump relay is clicking on and off. This may be your problem.

Wont start

check the distributor & rotor arm & clean with fine grade sandpaper if required,
try this: check the fuel pump it should make a whirring sound when try to start the car, put the key in the ignition & turn it a couple of clicks but do not turn the car over, if you hear the whirring sound the fuel pump is working if not then change the relay for the fuel pump & try again, if you now hear the fuel pump working then turn the ignition off then on a couple of clicks then off again, do this two or three times then try & start the car, failing this it could be a problem with the coils, the spark plugs, the leads, or it could be bad compression in your cylinders. try all of the above before considering faulty cylinders/piston rings as this is very unlikely on a 7 year lod vehicle unless it has been thrashed & treated to a very hard life. please rate my answer, Paul.

1999 chevy k2500. changed spark plugs 4 times in 7 months. Runs good for a week then doesn't start. Changed spider, throttle body sensor. Still has no codes and once again won't start.

The next time it won't start ,pull a sparkplug wire and see if you're getting fire.Then we'll known whether its a ignition or fuel problem and go from there.

Car won't start keys were left in ignition

Try jumping/boosting the vehicle, all of the above will still work with a weak/low battery but the starting system takes a lot of amperage to turn over the engine. If you only left the keys in the car and no lights on or anything running why would it not start if it was starting correctly before??? Whats happened since the car was last started?

I had my spark plugs changed today and now my car won't start it will turn over but won't start

fuel problem or spark problem neither is associated with a change in sparkplug unless you had a sever misfire that you let go for a long time to cause thhe igition module to fail.and this include the crank sensor that is underneath the ignition module. cycle the key you should hear a humm at the fuel tank and that is the fuel pump working if you hear the fuel pump then more than likely you will need to correct for spark ignition module and crank sensor

Ignition problem car runs on two cylinders randomly

if one spark plug were fouled or one plug wire was arcing to the engine then 2 cylinders would not work, the spark is controlled by the computerif its been 30,000 or sole miles since plugs and wires were changed change them it might fix it but at least you will know it isnt that and plugs would have been close to worn out anyway

Intermittent non-starting caused by high pitched whirring when key turned in ignition

Hello;
The problem you are experiencing is one of two possiblilties. First, the bendix is weak in the starter. Best course of action is to replace the starter. When you pull the starter out, use a pry bar or screwdriver to rotate the flywheel an inspect the meshing teeth of the flywheel. If there is a section that has worn teeth then the flywheel needs to be replaced.
Thanks;
