Double check your wires, make sure they are in the right order, starting at the right place on the cap.

Yes, your vehicle does have a cap and rotor, many newer vehicles do not, that maybe why they are confused.

SOURCE: plug wires to distributor rotor

Hello Macstff ;

1985 jaguar xj6 4.2 L Series 3
Firing Order 1-5-3-6-2-4
# 1 Spark plug at the last cylinder next to the firewall .
# 6 Spark plug at the front of th Engine nearest the fan .

The Rotation of the Rotor within the distributor cap is " Counter Clockwise

The Vacuun Advance Diaghram ( metal ) is more in line with the # 3 Spark plug wire .

Looking from the top near the Passenger side fender . If we know that the Number 3 Plug is more inline with the vacuum advance then moving " clockwise the next plug would be the # 5 and after that would be the # 1 plug

This shold get you on your way providing that nothing else has been tampered with . I hope that this has been helpful to you .

Hello i can assist you. Hello your ignition module will cause a no spark you find your module under your distributor cap.You will see two wires go into your distributor shaft these will connect to your pick up distributor module.To remove and replace this part you will need to unscrew the distributor cap lift off and remove retaining screws on the module once you have removed this replace it with your new module reinstall your distributor cap and start.

I have a 85 blazer with a "w" vin number that won"t start and isn't receiving any spark or fuel. I know it isnt receiving spark and have been told that it could be a cam sensor or crank sensor that would...

most of the time the module will fix it. it's cheap and easy to replace.
just remove the distributor cap and the rotor and you will see it.
however, according to your info, the blazer does not have a vin code W in 1985. that's a 7.4 liters engine, the full size blazer only have 5.7 liters

Take off the distributor cap. Check the star wheel that is splined to the distributor shaft that the pick-up coil uses. Make sure this wheel is not loose on the distributor shaft. It is right above the pick-up. If it is loose, replace the distributor. This is a common problem. If it needs one, all the part stores stock the distributor.
