SOURCE: ran out of diesel on

Crack the in line at the injector pump and bemp the motor. This will run the lift pump for 20 seconds or so. DO NOT CRANK THE MOTOR! Cranking the motor with no fuel to the injector pump WILL BURN OUT THE PUMP! Continue to bump the motor until you get fuel at the injector pump. Allow for the LP pump to stop running in between bumps. Once you have fuel at the injector pump, crack the #1,3 and 4 injectors. Crank the motor in 10 second intervals, allowing 10 min. or so between cranks to let the injector pump cool. When the motor starts close the injectors and let it run to finish bleeding out the system. The bleed process is easier with two people. You'll lose less preciouse diesel that way.

SOURCE: ran out of fuel, need to bleed fuel system and

First GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER
This can be a very tough thing to do and especially if you're by yourself.
You do not mention if the vehicle is now running? If the vehicle isn't running you will need to have a fully charged battery. With a charged battery turn the key one and open the fuel rail pressure release valve which you will allow to flow for about 4 -5 seconds with fuel. If you get some fuel mixed with air coming from the bleeder valve it is what you should get.

If you get only air with the fuel pump running then allow it to 'bleed' air until you get fuel. Once you get a fairly steady stream of fuel shut off the valve and attempt to start the vehicle. Once the vehicle starts you will want to bleed the fuel after a few minutes.

I want to have you try starter fluid CAREFULLY first as most smaller vehicles will recover from running out of fuel without having to bleed the air out. They will many times resolve the problem from just running about 20 minutes or so. Please consult your handbook before attempting this.
AGAIN - It is BEST to have two people just in case of fire. A GOOD fire extinguisher is best.

Best of it - hope you get it running quick.

SOURCE: just ran out of ruel with my diesel engine....are

When I did the same, I did have an air bleed valve on the injector pump to use. I blead it out thoroughly, but still had to bleed the lines post pump anyway.

Bleed fuel system

There is often a bolt on top of the diesel pump which you open up in order to bleed. You open the bolt up a few turns until it's loose then crank the engine until fuel comes out around the loose bolt. The engine should start up at the same time.
It doesn't matter if you open up a bolt that's not the bleed bolt, just tighten it up and try another bolt until you find the bleed bolt.

I have an F-350 Super Duty Diesel V8 2008 and we ran out of fuel. When we put diesel in it throws out black smoke. How do you check the Fuel pressure? It won't start and we just changed the fuel filters....

Make sure you fill the filters with fuel before you install them. then bleed the line at the fuel filter then move
on to the injectors
loosen the injector line to bleed it one at a time then crank it till no air is coming out tighten that line then do
the next one. . Dont use starting fluid to start it if you use any spray use wd40 for priming I havent worked on the new ones but the 7.3s will start that way

Ran out of diesel and filled it again cant get it started

Hi,

You have to bleed the diesel from the injectors, however diesel forced out of an injector can go through the skin and could prove to be fatal so great care should be taken.

I cant get over 2000 rpm and my truck doesnt go over 65

You could have one of two problems that are related to running out of diesel. Either your fuel filter is clogged and you need to replace it or you still have some air in your fuel line and it needs to bled out. Normally, the modern diesel fuel systems bleed themselves but it is worth a look.
