Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 1998 buick lasabre limited with about 240,000 miles on it. I hav' nt had any problems except starter replacement, battery replacement until recently. It started acting up and wouldnt crank over the first time, but on second or third try did, went out the other day to start it and now it wont click or turn over, no dash lights either, door chimes on when door ajar and radio works.had several mechanics look at it( not sure if they even know what theyre talking about) one says its the ignition switch needs replaced which means getting new switch with a chip key. Another says its the anti theft system. I am recovering from Cancer, dont have money and need to know if its worth fixing it or should i just junk it.supposibly its not the starter, and although battery not reading a real good charge was told not battery either plz help!!! Can the anti lock system be bypassed? If so how.If its the ignition and chip key that needs replaced where do i go to get it and about what will it cost? I have someone to do the work that wont charge me alot

The ignition switch is not the part with the key. it is a series of connections that are lower on the steering column.

SOURCE: 1997 ES 300 How to reset anti-theft system when car won't start

With the doors shut, insert the key into the drivers door lock. Lock and unlock the door 5 times. This should reset the system. If that doesn't work you should contact a qualified repair shop.

SOURCE: anti theft dash light is blinking on my 1998 rodeo

I'm assuming its an original alarm or system that came from factory or dealer. When the light blinks is because the alarm is activated. Look underneath the radio the alarm brain might be there. There will be a label on it saying alarm or security system etc. Disconnect the harness to it and try operating your vehicle.

1998 buick lasabre limited==stuck in defrost==heat not hot

The problem is either the "Mode" door actuator or a stuck mode door. That door is responsible for directing where the air comes out. Locate the mode door and disconnect the actuator. Move the door by hand. If it moves freely, chances are the actuator is bad.

1999 buick lasabre turns over but wont start

Fuel mixture issue, several possible causes except the starter which uses electricity from the battery to spin the cylinders and eliminate static inertia. It could be flooded, out of fuel, bad MAP, etc. 1999 is old but probably still modern enough that it is fuel injection and not spark plugs. My Prizm is from 1999. It's junk but will last another 120K miles.

Gas miles per gal on 1998 buick lasabre motor is 3800 v6

depends on they type of driving you do and how heavy your foot is, but you should expect about 15-17 mpg city and 20-23 highway if it is in good running condition.

1998 Buick LaSabre LTd. 18,000 miles (no kidding). Engine light came on. Replaced gas cap & engine light stayed off for about a week. Engine light back on. Any suggestions?

Stop at Auto Zone or advance Auto and ask them to read the codes for you. That will give you a better idea of where to start.

My 94 buick lasabre has been running very smoothly until I went in it to start it and it eont turnover. It sounds almost like the fuel is not getting into the engine. I checked the battery cables and that...

if you dont have test equipment then you can determine what is likely wrong by the followint:
spray a little starting fluid or gas in the air intake (without the air filter) ... if it starts and runs for a few seconds then the ignition system and timing belt are likely ok .. you should then check the fuel pump and fuel filter ( a mechanic would test for fuel flow and pressure) .. you could have a blown fuel pump fuse ..if your car starts after spraying the starting fluid and continues to run but very rough .. then you might have water in the gas (more common as weather changes cause condensation). ... if the car doesnt start even with the starting fluid then you likely have an ignition problem .. you can remove an ignitiion wire and test for spark as the engine turns over ... if there is no spark then you could have a bad ignition module, coil or other ignition component.. if your lasabre has lots of miles on it you might check to see if it has a timing belt vs a timig chain .. the bels have a limited life time and can break or skip a tooth ... if it startted and ran a few seconds with the starting fluid then the belt is not the cause.. .

95 buick lasabre horn problem

Ever find out what to do with this? I'm running into the same problem and see multiple refrences to it, but not much for follow up on what fixed it. I pulled the fuse for mine, but it kills the trunk release and automatic I'm not a big fan of that.
