Check for vacuum leaks, most common is on PVC valve hoses Your IAC is mounted on top of intake with 2 8mm bolts Take out and clean out carbon from both sides Also can throttle body at same time It will start hard and run rough for a minute, just let it idle through After 30 secs, snap throttle and see where idle rests

Idles high from first to second gear .

Define idles high like its going high rpms before shifting or the engine itself is high reving if its high rpming when shifting its mostly you tranny going out you can try tranny fix oil I used it on my truck when it had shifting problems and ive had no problems since it takes a few days to work though and if its the motor itself it could be a lot of things but I dont know much of the problem based on what you told us

Honda element 03. Normally starts up at 1,000 rpm in park and shifts into drive smoothly. Sometimes starts up b/w 1.5 and 2k rpm at idle and JERKS into drive or reverse.Solutions?

Cars not control choke themselves electronically, this is likely the car trying to warm itself up quickly. The jerking will occurs anytime you shift into gear at an RPM over a low idle as the torque converter is being engaged. If the high idle last more than a couple of minutes then you might have an issue.

95 saturn sc1 all of a sudden had engine light on and the idle just went way low, also effects how tranny shifts, but will barely stay running in gear with brake on. Sometimes it starts idling fine and...

You either have a bad engine coolant temp sensor & connector.Located under upper radiator hose at cylinder head Yellow & black wire.Original sensor is ceramic & replacement will be brass from saturn. Also you may check for vacuum leaks at PCV hose & valve.Hope this helps

My car jumps off when i select the D gear is this a major gearbox problem?

sounds more like a high idle problem to me.

Your tranny should have some "floating" when you shift to any gear, but if you are idled up too high then that "floating" disappears and it jumps.

I would check you idle before you think about tranny problems.
