Thanks Bill. My technician told me diagnosis can not detect the faults in transmission. He said with my discription the solenoid that control the gear selection is burnt therefore i have to by a new gear box. What other solution do we have or what is your advice

  • Bill Boyd Nov 19, 2013

I would seek another opinion as I am not convinced about the technician's answer. What is wrong with replacing the solenoid I would have the bands anmd clutch pack adjusted and change the oil only I would seek out an accredited transmission repair shop to do the job. Do yourself and your wallet a favour and ask around

Run fault codes and check for sensors/ servos and solenoid faults in transmission. Have a pressure test done on the gear box and have the bands and clutch pack adjustment done. Change the oil

Check your engine oil using the oil dipstick located on the engine - you need to add oil to the fill line as shown on the dipstick. You should have the oil replaced regularly (every 3-6 months) and keep your eye on the level if the engine is leaking oil underneath or burning a lot of it.

Warning light "R DIFF TEMP" what is this

This is a warning light in the diff that is telling you that the diff oil temp is outside operating parameters . It can be from low oil level in the diff , failing bearings , or simply an under inflated tyre ( flat) that is making the side gears work when they shouldn't be thereby generating extra heat for the oil

Transmission fluid

Manual transmissions take a heavier gear oil instead of transmission fluid which is mainly used in automatic transmissions. Go to any auto parts store, ask someone to help you select the right one.

While i was doing off road driving a warnning light (a/t oil temp) turn on, i looked underneath the car and i found oil leak drop after drop, not too sure now should I change the transmition oil and filter...

Change the transmission fluid and filter. The light says fluid temp. is high, so you may have some burnt fluid-deadly for transmissions. Drop the trans. pan and look for metal shavings-too much will indicate failure of transmission parts. If not too much, you may be alright with fluid and filter change.
Stop the leak,. make sure it is trans. fluid, not motor oil. If motor oil, stop the leak and change oil and filter. I would do the transmission regardless, since the light came on.

What does warning light "A/T Oil Temp warning light mean

I Would Say It Means Automatic Transmission Fluid Is Hot ,So Check Its Level There should Be a Dip Stick For This If Not Then i Would Think something Is Wrong in The Gear box Or The Gearbox Oil Cooler If Fitted Could be An Integral Part Of The Radiator.

Can't find dip stick for transmition

There is a dipstick, most likely rear drivers side of engine but could be elsewhere. There are only 2 dipsticks in engine compartment, one is oil and the other is trans fluid. They should be marked. You add the fluid down the dipstick tube. Engine needs to be running in park and trans needs to be at operating temp to get accurate measurement on fluid. Hope this helps.

Unknown warning light

Check you fluid levels on the car. Oil and transmission can turn this light on. Check the oil while car is off and transmission while the car is on.
