cant tell u how to replace the belt its eith in the engin or on the sidewith a cover over timing belt that is.. to set timinmg when your pistons are fully at top of engine turn back 1/8 of a turn right bf top dead center.. valve chould be closed on 1first clyder if not then this means your on the second strock..has to be on first stroke..turn over again then set piston at top with valve closed..your cam should fall in place..note if u remove the cam MAKE SURE U MARK THE CAP TO THE POSTION AND DIRECTION YOU TOOK IT OFF>> if not you will end up with a warped cam and rod caps wore and warped..

TIMER BELT BREAKING

I am assuming you mean timing belt as these cars did not come stock with timer belts. You need to get a timing belt and fix it. Just hope that when the belt broke you did not bend any valves as that will be costly to fix.

as it is an interference engine it is a sure bet that the valves will be bent. If you have already fitted a new belt then do a compression test

When do you change the timing belt for mitsubishi lancer 2006 2.0

Replace it at 100,000 miles. This is an interference engine and as such if the belt breaks you will have engine damage.

My mate has a 2002 lancer .had the timing belt done and all electrics checked and a full service done..also had the plugs changed.it starts fine but when its warmed up it runs like its on 2 cylinders.

i checked the engine at gates.com, a manufacturer of timing belts. the '02 lancer is listed as an interference engine. that means if the belt broke while the engine was running, you might have some damage to the valves. also if it is slightly out of time, the problem could occur. you must make sure the timing is spot on, which may require going back into the timing belt and checking crank and cam position. you may also have to tear the valve train down and check for damage

what year is your Lancer??... there is model w/timing belt and there a model with timing chain now ,from 2007 until now...but either 1 is broken belt or chain ,you might look into cost in your pocket full of dollars, unless you know some mechanic skill...the bottom line is that you have a bend valves when its come to Mitsu or Honda or and any other with DOHC also..4cyl. or 6cyl...

Engine has no compression

when the timing belt broke it also bent the valves, hence the broken rocker arm. pull the head and see the valves are bent

Timing mark for timing belt

Best to go into a Mitsi dealer and take a photocopy of the timing belt replacement instructions. I would be very concerned that there may be internal engine damage if the cambelt has broken, such as bent valves or piston damage. It's highly unlikely that the cam will stop in the right position with all the valves almost closed when the belt breaks, but I have heard of it from time to time.
Hope this helps, Mark.
