I would try draining the fluid and changing the filter and fluid (with the oem spec fluid) this will give your tranny a lil more pressure to help engage the reverse , hopefully the filter is just plugged or gummy thus blocking fluid passage, its the easiest fix b4 going to the expensive tranny shop$$$ (they may also be able to adjust the pressure applied to the reverse bands, but ithey almost always seem to want to sell u a new transmission first so beware, try a few different shops to see if they can adjust the pressure, if the filter change doesnt help

2010 ford focus automatic trsnsmission makes rubbing noise when accelerating from acomplete stop . noise continues until 2nd gear engages. from then on all is fine. reverse sometimes doesnt engage, ma

A carrier bearing usually pertains to the differential assembly and would not cause the symptom you describe. There is a problem with this transmission that causes it to not drop completely to first gear after a period of driving. Ford is aware of it but I do not believe they have initiated a recall. Call your Ford dealer(s) to see if you can find an honest man. Ask for the service manager.

96 ROVER DISC. Has strong reverse - won't engage any forward gears. Fluid seems full even when warm.

Make sure the 4wd shifter is in correct position and hasn't slipped out of correct spot to get you moving forward.

I have a 93 Toyota pick up 4x4 standard transmission. Sometimes when I go to reverse, there is a grinding noise, which won't let me shift into reverse. I then need to turn off the vehicle, then engage....

Could be the clutch.
Reverse and first do not have gears that line up like the others do. So if the clutch is not disengaging all the way, they will grind.

You vehicle uses a Idle air control motor,(IAC) when you put a load on the vehicle (Drive or reverse) the ECM detects the load and idles up the IAC, even for the A/C (air conditioner) You can try a throttle body cleaning. or a new IAC

When i put my truck in reverse the back up lights dont come on how ever the bulbs are fine i dont know what the problem is can you help?

There is a reverse switch that is on the transmission that engages when you put your gear selector in reverse. This tells the lights when to come on. I would recommend that you check the connection on the switch prior to buying a new one. The wires will sometimes lose connectivity, and simply need to re-establish a connection.

Reverse gear

it could be that reverse gear has been partially stripped. when we talk gears we are literally talking of mechanical gears. sometimes teeth break off from normal wear and tear, after so many break off the gear has trouble engaging. you will either have to have the transmission rebuilt or have new one installed, hope its under warranty this kind of work can be costly. Most likely this is the problem. If your car is standard transmission it could be your clutch is having trouble engaging, but this would also affect forward gears so it is most likely your reverse gear is missing teeth

No reverse sometimes geo metro a/t

The accelator cable is "Y" shaped. one side goes to the carb and the other to the tranmission. If you have the carb.side too tight it will give you the problem that you are having.
