try pumping the brakes a couple of times when the car is off to see if it will build pressure that will make sure there are no leaks, other wise the pump could be out

To check if a brake is hanging up or grabbing, carefully check the rims after a few miles of driving. If one rim is much hotter than the other, you may have a brake staying partially engaged robbing you of fuel economy.

When braking the oil gauge will read at it's lowest point and a warning ding will sound but when under power and driving normal speeds it works fine.


It is normal for the oil pressure fluctuate. this is caused by the oil pump not turning as fsst and pushing less oil. When the pressure starts to dip really low it is cause by the bearing wearing out and not holding the pressure. bearings normally wear out for two reasons, one is that it really high miles on the engine, the other is running it to low no engine oil. If you don't have really high miles , then I would look at the oil sending unit first. they can get clooged up and give bad readings.

The reset rate for vehicle computers vary by manufacturer, but 50-100 miles sounds good for the relearning process. As with the RPM's climbing unexpectedly, as a precaution I would look for a vacuum leak under your hood... it will be a hissing sound around some rubber hoses, as this can cause the RPM's to fluctuate and possibly give check engine light codes.

Brakes are sticking when the pedal is applied, also what would be the result of a normal pedal but you have to pull up on the pedal with your foot to release the brakes


What you are describing is brake drag. Brake drag occurs when there is still fluid under pressure left in the brake lines. When you apply brake pressure, brake fluid is pushed into the brake lines from the master cylinder, with a piston. During normal operation, when released, the brake pedal should return to a resting position as the brake fluid returns to the master cylinder. Brake drag may be caused by any of the following:

A) The master cylinder piston is not returning far enough for the brake fluid return into the compensating port.

B) Topping off the master with automatic transmission fluid, engine oil, or power steering fluid, can well the rubber seals in the brake lines. The mineral oil in these fluids can affect the composition of the rubber in the brake line.

C) The master cylinder push rod could be out of adjustment.

You problem could be caused by, but is not limited to, any one of these symptoms; each and every car is different, and some have problems that can stump the greatest technicians for weeks, so do not take this as your solution, but rather a place to start.
