SOURCE: kia sedona 2004 diesel auto, when

please ask a local mechanic to have a drive and get an opinion as you will appreciate for sure that trying answer a question like this is very difficult from afar ,even more so when an auto version is like finding dr livingstone here in spain ,now their could be any number of reasons but the one i am going to plump for is deformed tyres ,jack up each wheel and spin it ,yes it may be new and the tread is ok but a tyre can go out of shape with the sun and this is a common occurance here in spain and how i test for it is to drive car slowly and let go of wheel ,you will see it shaking from side to side

Bushings and or linkage adjustments need replacement and or change in adjustment. Sometimes bushings or piviot at shift lever is too sloppy.

I have a 1989 300zx manual trans. Will not shift in to reverse what coud be the problem

Sounds like linkage from shift lever to transmission or the bushings on the linkage points. A "sloppy" shift lever with similar bushing problems may be the problem.

Kia Carnival/Sedona, No crank no start good battery lights do not dim. any ideas please.

I pretty.certain it.to do.with.gear linkages either one of the tie rods has snapped come off their respective ballpoint or there is a large rubber ball like bushes that sit in a cylinder shape hole on the end off the gear selector rod thats either fell off or badly worn the later most likely hope.It help you.would be able also to see if it the later just by jacking car up and looking up centre car back of engine

check teh linkage ,these cars do have a sloppy gear lever movement anyway but i think yours is rusted up or the nylon bushes are worn out ,try soaking all moving parts with a squirt from oil can containing engine oil and not that spray can stuff

Shifter is very loose, sloppy.

The shifter linkage has a two piece plastic / nylon bushing at either end of the gear shift tube that goes from the gear shift lever to the transmission. As the bushes wear through normal usage the gear shift becomes sloppy. The bushes at the gear shift lever end usually wear out first.
You may have to drop the exhaust pipe to access the underside of the gear lever as there is not a lot of space to work in above the exhaust.
To replace, remove the securing nut and through bolt where the underside of the gear lever U section attaches to the tube. Pull down the tube and the worn bits of the bush will come out. Place the new bushes in either side of the tube and put tube end back between the U section. Replace the through bolt and nut. If still a little sloppy, you may have to do the transmission end bushes as well.

I have a 5spd manual gearbox (from the Diesel Gemini) and the gear shifter (after being reinstalled) is completely loose, you can get it in to gear (barely) but it's difficult and tricky, the shifter can...

white plastic bush should be on bottom of selector this breaks off or falls off of end ball causing very sloppy gear lever. remove shifter and look for bush on end of selector also look to see if it fell off inside
