SOURCE: Will I damage or confuse the BCM (Body Control Module) in my 2011 Toyota Tacoma by adding an additional lighting circuit ?

you can connect them to your running lights, they just need to run off any power.doesnt matter where you get it from, but if you want them to come on with the lights thats what i would do.un less you power a switch an run the running boards from the switch.just more work that way, also you have to hit the switch everytime at night.

BCM fuse keeps blowing

Sounds like you may have a pinched wiring in the circuit where the fuse supplies power to. Might want to remove all the components that this circuit operates and one by one connect them. Once the fuse pops, you have isolated the circuit and all you need to do is follow the specific wiring to that bad circuit and find the problem.

2002 lincoln towncar door ajar light s stay on after minor accident. Only goes off when in drive. Can't find the fuse. I have to disconnect the battery

You have one or more door ajar sensor switches that are defective, have the BCM (Body control module) scanned to see which door is causing it, the light can be turned on by any of the 4 doors. The sensor is located inside the door on the door latch mechanism, there is no fuse as it is a ground circuit.

Why wont my windows and door locks work?

It could be several thing's, fuse's , circuit breaker's , broken wire's inside the rubber boot from the car body to the door , this happens a lot on older vehicles from opening the doors over the years . The drivers door is the master switch . You need to find what fuse's , circuit breaks Power these systems . You can find that info. here . check for B+ voltage with a volt meter at the door switch an also check grounds . There are videos on youtube - basic automotive electrical trouble shooting , how to read wiring diagrams (if you don't already know) . I'm looking at a wiring diagram now , I also see that a BCM - body control module is shown on the diagram . Do you know what a BCM is ? You can google it .In automotive electronics, body control module is a generic term for an electronic control unit responsible for monitoring and controlling various electronic accessories in a vehicle's body. Typically in a car the BCM controls the power windows, power mirrors, air conditioning, immobilizer system, central locking, etc. The BCM communicates with other on-board computers via the car's vehicle bus, and its main application is controlling load drivers - actuating relays that in turn perform actions in the vehicle such as locking the doors or dimming the salon overhead lamp. If you are not familiar with these thing's your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that does .

Have no power when I turn ignition on. However lights turn on an interior lights work. 2010 journey

The lights are on a different B+ circuit , ignition may turn on a relay like so many newer vehicles today . The ignition switch could be an input to the BCM - body control module ,which then the BCM energizes a relay turning on power to certain systems on the vehicle . You can check out wiring diagrams here free wiring diagrams ! I'm looking at a power distribution diagram an it shows run relay an a run ACC relay .This are none replaceable , built into circuit board it says . There is another one run start relay . These dodge vehicles have what is called a TIPM - totally integrated power module . It's a fuse / relay center with a microprocessor built in . This is under the hood in engine compartment > I know they have had problems with this ! But all so have see bad grounds under or near these , if the Battery is there too .

Where is the fuse/s for the map lights and dome lights

ANSWER by patrick mannion on June 01, 2010
Looking at a wiring diagram the dome light and rear reading lights operate through the body control module. Check the BCM 2 fuse, BCM 1 fuse and BCM cluster fuse they may all be in the circuit. These fuses are in the engine compartment fuse box.

Where is BCM located on 2002 PT Cruiser locks working even when car is not on have been told to check BCM don't know where to find it

I don't find a body control module for your car, but according to the wiring diagram the door locks are controlled by a keyless entry module which is located on top of the dash behind the ac vents.
There are three fuses that power the module.
Check with your dealer for more details.

Do you or your husban know how to trouble shoot automotive electrical systems , using a wiring diagram and a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Do you know how to trouble shoot electronic control modules an circuitry ? The BCM - body control module controls the power locks , anti-theft system . The first step in diagnosing problems like this involve hooking of a scan tool that can pull BCM codes . No auto parts store can check these codes .
Door locking/unlocking, by remote keyless entry (RKE) or driver/all door lock switches, is controlled through the BCM.
When a driver door unlock has been requested, the BCM switches circuit 694 to battery voltage. This energizes the driver door unlock relay which supplies power to the driver door lock motor. Grounding is achieved through the closed contacts of the all-door lock relay. Grounding is also achieved through the windings of the all-door lock motors and the all-door unlock relay.
When an all-door unlock has been requested, the BCM switches circuit 194 to battery voltage. This energizes the door unlock relay which supplies power to the all-door lock motors. Grounding is achieved through the closed contacts of the door lock relay. Grounding is also achieved through the winding of the driver door lock motor and the driver door unlock relay.
When an all-door lock has been requested, the BCM switches circuit 195 to battery voltage. This energizes the door lock relay which supplies power to all-door lock motors. Grounding is achieved through the closed contacts of the door unlock relay and the BCM.
Lock/Unlock power application is limited by the BCM to 7 seconds to protect lock motors.

The passlock sensor is powered by circuit 1459. The passlock sensor is grounded by circuit 1835. Passlock sensor data is supplied to the BCM by circuit 1836.
The passlock sensor data supplied to the BCM is in the form of V-codes or voltage codes. When the proper ignition key is turned in the ignition switch, the correct V-code is supplied to the BCM. The BCM responds by sending a serial data password to the engine controller allowing the engine to run.
Under a tamper condition, a specific V-code is supplied to the BCM. The BCM will send a class II message to the PCM disabling the fuel injectors.

2002 gmc yukon radio and wipers and windows stop working the I can hit middle consal and it might or might not work for a will Help

Power for those devices is provided from the retained accessory power which is controlled by the BCM (body control module) which is in the console.I had the same problem with the radio, wipers and windows all stopping. I tried running the diag procedure for the BCM but couldn't get in to run. I then read online about a loose connection in the BCM, so I took the 4 screws out of the console, got access to the BCM and removed it. inside is a small circuit board. On the back of the circuit board where most of the soldering is, there was a bad connection to a relay. Re-soldered the connection and the problem went away.
