Code p0944 refers to hydraulic pressure unit--loss of pressure==causes--mechanical fault.. I would suggest that you have a pressure test done on the transmission to determine if there is an internal problem. An oil and filter change may be the answer as the filter may be blocked

SOURCE: Mazda 626 - Hard to shift into gear.

With any vehicle that has a hydraulic clutch, a worn master cylinder or slave cylinder will give this very symptom. First step is to check the fluid in the resivor. If it is low, you will want to check for fluid bypassing the seals. Be sure to check under the rubber dust cover as fluid can collect there and not be readily visible. Also, if the fluid in the resivor is dark colored, it is an indication of the internal seals going bad and you will need to replace the cylinders.

Are you throwing any codes? Sounds like limp mode.

Do the key dance to see if you have any codes:

Key in ignition;

Cycle On, off, on, off, on, without cranking it.

If you get P0700 you have the Generic transmission fault code, could range from the TCM to minor\major transmission problems.

you replaced the output speed sensor, try replacing the input speed sensor, sometimes called the turbine speed sensor, thats where the computer gets the info to shift.

Will not move from 2nd gear help PLEASE?

Your transmission is in a "limp in" mode. There are 2 sensors that need replaced. Total cost should be less than $100. I had it happen to me on my 99 300m. The sensors limit the speed to about 25 mph and the RPM rev's high. Just get the sensors replaced.

Gear shifting on 2002 chrysler 300 m

transaxle reset mode page 148 of the owner manual. when the transaxle sensor detects an abnormal condition that can cause damage, it drops the transmission into second gear to protect the transaxle from damage. pull over to the side of the road, shut off the car and restart it. it may go away for a little while and let you drive normally. mine kept getting worse. I took it to the dealer and they had to replace a part that works with the transaxle (not the transaxle or transmission itself). it cost about $900 and took them 3 attempts as the first two replacement parts were bad out of the box.
