Question about Ford Taurus
Already replaced plugs and wires...still have the misfire faults
Still have misfire, or misfire fault codes.? If the problem was solved, and you need to clear the fault codes, disconnect both battery leads and touch the negative and positive cable together. Nothing should be connected to battery when this is done!..

Did you swap out your distributor cap and rotor? Try that first - it's not going to be the cat. You may be losing compression in cylinder #1 one... Hope its the cap/rotor...

this car has what is called coil over ignition which means no plug wires or cap so if it is missing swap coil from cyl 2 and any other cyl then clear code and rerun car till light comes back on then check code if it is still cyl 2 missfire then replace that plug if code changes to the cylinder that 2's coil was on then replace that coil <that car does have a recall for coils> if car is not missing and you have that code most likely isnt an ignition problem but will have a small vaccume leak so check the small hoses for leaks. very common for fuel preasure regulater vaccume hose to brake from age

SOURCE: p0302 p1131 bad misfire plugs
you will need to check #2 cylinder compression. If good run engine and unplug the fuel injector for #2 to see if the idle changes. no change means bad injector. also check for good spark at plug.
possible intake manifold leak.
