That is when clutch slip happens-when the clutch is released. If the clutch disc is worn badly, it won't hold tight against the engine flywheel-it will slip, causing that shudder you feel. Have a mechanic verify this, but it sounds like you need a new clutch.

Shudder could be the lockup torque converter if it is an automatic transmission. Another one would be the drive axles. Check the CV joints and u-joint in the drivetrain. If the shudder comes and goes with load changes, it could be either. However, to tell if it is the torque converter, watch the tachometer when the shudder occurs. If the RPM rises slightly, then drops off as the shudder stops, it is the torque converter. There is an additive for this issue that can be purchased an any parts store, called shudder-ease. Hope this helps you.

Torque converter shudder in 04 acura TL

from what i have learned about the TL 3.2, they are known for transmission failures, i have seen many for sale with "new" or "rebuilt" transmissions. i never heard of a computer causing the clutches to chatter in a converter.

My 2005 nissan pathfinder does a shudder when hitting 60mph, but only when the overdrive is on...what causes this?

it sounds like u have transmission torque converter clutch shudder, I recommened you change the fluid and add 2 ounces of gear oil friction modifier, this works very well at curing this type of shudder issue.

Shake/Shudder while depressing the brake.

I just changed the brake pads and rotors on my father's 2001 Trooper that he recently purchased because they were shaking just like your were.  He bought it from a mechanic shop and they had put new pads on it but it needed new rotors as well.  If there is noticable groving on the rotors and new pads are installed it can create shaking, sometimes severe, when the brakes are applied.  It sounds like this is what has happened with your vehicle as well.  That being said, I don't consider it a huge safety issue to drive it until you get it fixed, just know that your braking will not be optimal and that it will take you longer to stop than if the brakes were working properly.  All that being said, get them fixed ASAP so you don't have to worry about it.  Who wants to mess with safety right?  Good luck, hope this helps!

Clutch Problem

That sounds like the engine mounts are broken, or well on their way to it. Just look at the rubbers inside the mounts, if they are cracked or damaged, they need replacing.

Transmission Problem

Your particular vehicle has the 4R70W trans, and i have rebuilt a ton of them over the years. It could very well be a TCC shudder.Let me explain.Between the rear of the engine, and the front of the trans is a Torque Convertor.Inside the convertor is a clutch that only applies after 4th gear is achieved. This is to reduce slippage and gain better fuel economy.Sometimes, the fluid will deteriorate,or the clutch will become weak and won't hold totally, and will give a chattering or running over a washboard sensation.Sometimes the engagement and disengagement is simply harsh. This can usually be remedied with a fluid replacement of both the pan and the fluid in the torque convertor, along with some shudder fix fluid that you add in to the fluid.Total cost should be $100-$150-$200.If the fluid change and shudder fix doesn't correct the problem, then the torque convertor itself would need to be replaced with a remanufactured unit.Ford has more info on this shudder fix as there was a recall campaign i believe for the convertor shudder problem.Good luck.
