I have a 1994 BMW 740i that the brake pedal will not fully return on.we have already changed out the brake booster and tested the sensors and even greased the pivoting arm. at a stand still now. basically i was driving and the car stopped me on the freeway and would not let me go/pushing the gas pedal so i had to wait and finally it seemed to let up but did not let up all the way. you have to actually pull the brake pedal back up with your hand or foot and until you do this the brake light stays on. the abs light was solid but now it is blinking. we have even adjusted the tension rod. has anyone had a similar problem and have a possible place to start looking into next. any and all ideas would be helpful and appreciated

SOURCE: bmw 320d e46 2001 orange brake wornin light stay

the way to reset the brake light is to turn the key to "on" without turning the car on. Let it sit there for 15-30 seconds and the light should go off by itself. If not, double check how you have the sensors hooked up.

SOURCE: both of the brake lights on my 97 bmw 740i don't work

are the dash lights still working,if so,first check the bulbs, you can get a test light at autozone for a couple bucks, with the bulb out, test light grounded, have someone step on the brake pedal, touch the test lite probe to one of the contacts inside bulb socket,if it dont work your brake lite switch is out,its located under the dash, maybe on brake pedal lever

03 tiburon mechanic replaced bent valves water pump fan or timing belt but didn't explain why before it was brought in my brakes locked up while I was driving? Car over heated first smoke and leaking

Bent valves are a sign of a broken timing belt and when that happens on an interference engine it can stop very quickly. Overheating and smoking might mean the engine suffered seizure and when that happens the engine will stop even quicker so it could seem like the brakes came on.

Other than those possibilities there is nothing to connect the two events together other than pure coincidence.

The problem is most likely in the vacuum booster. It has a valve inside when slight pressure is applied to the pedal, applies vacuum boost to the master cylinder aiding the operator in braking. If you notice applying the brakes several times with the engine off, the pedal will harden in the same fashion. With a malfunctioning internal valve the booster can apply the vacuum boost when not needed.

brakes locking on is an indication of a failing master cylinder and not allowing the brake fluid back to the reservoir
At this point I would suggest a visit to an accredited professional brake shop for a proper diagnosis and an explanation of what would cause the fault
I am thinking that the rubbers in the master are enlarged and are jamming the return of the pistons in the cylinder

No speed when gas pedal is to floor tranny light came on

With the oil light coming on and the brake pedal being hard to press I would say that the engine stopped hence no vacuum -no power assist from the booster.- hard brake pedal. The lock uo feeling may come from the engine seizing up while you were still in gear

Valve stem seals can cause this problem, but normally only when first started. Oil in the rocker cover seaps through the oil seals into the cylinders and is burnt up on start up.
Try a "STOP A LEAK" additive and it may reduce the oil consumption and smoke.
I found some on e-bay and it worked on my tired old escort. It even stopped the rattling tappets.

1994 mazda cronos 2.00 v6 auto car idles ok drives ok but when i come to a stop it stalls in gear been atuo

This sounds like a problem with the torque converter lockup system. Usually the torque converter lockup solenoid is at fault in your condition. This solenoid usually locks up the torque convertor (which acts like a clutch in an automatic transmission) when you are driving at a certain speed, and unlocks it when you press the brake, and/or come to a stop. When a torque converter stays locked up, and you stop the vehicle, it acts like a vehicle with a manual transmission, if you bring the vehicle to a complete stop without applying the clutch pedal, the brakes stall the engine. Basically, if the torque converter can't unlock, even when you come to a stop, the engine is still locked to the transmission, and even when you apply the brakes, the torque converter doesn't slip and freewheel like it should, but instead stalls the engine.
