SOURCE: 2000 Lexus ES300 - 45K

Are you sure this is a rattle or is it more of a creaking noise? I have a 2000 ES300 and had an issue when I would go over speed bumps and the noise would drive me nuts! However replacing the bushing in the top of the strut mount is expensive due to the labor involved.. Replacement of the strut or the bushing isn't necessary. Just open the hood, locate the strut housing and you ll be able to see the black rubber bushing in the middle. Obtain a can of Heavy Duty silicone aerosol spray and attach a straw to the spray tip. Using a flathead screwdriver wedge the screwdriver between the top of the bushing and the metal pushing the screwdriver all the way to the edge of the metal underneath the roof of the metal housing. Then pry the edge of the bushing away from the metal housing so that the top of the edge of the bushing exposed and stick the straw end of the silicone into the spot and spray generously. Only slight bushing movement will be obtained as the bushing is pretty stiff but it will be enough. Work your way around using this technique until you get the spray fully around the bushing 360 degrees getting it into the area between the edge of the bushing and the metal. Then spray the silicone onto the top of the bushing filling it all the way up until it spills over the metal. After it drains down, repeat again making sure you fill it above the rim of the bushing so it seeps into the area between the bushing and he metal housing (or frame) because this is where the rubbing is taking place that is creating that awful noise. Repeat on the other side and your done. The main goal is to get the silicone into the area between the metal and the bushing along the edge. This happens to be the way I was able to do it. This totally solved my problem and now the car is so quiet there aren't any knocking, creaking or rattling noises. This was a hard solution to explain without visuals, hope you can follow. This will work for sure. The Heavy Duty Silicone spray I used was manufactured by CRC and I bought it from Walmart.

SOURCE: I'm in the process of replacing the front struts

  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Spring seat. Tighten the new upper strut retaining nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
  2. Remove the strut from the vise and disassemble the securing nuts and bolt.
  3. Rotate the upper support so the lowest bolt on the support aligns with the projection part of the lower spring.
  1. Install or connect the following:
  2. Strut and tighten the strut to body bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  • Strut to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts to 156 ft. lbs. (211 Nm).
To install:
  1. Install the lower ball joint onto the steering knuckle and tighten nut to 90 ft. lbs. (123 Nm). Install new cotter pin.

Ok on this same car 2005 in the front end are there shocks or struts cause it drives really well but when I go over a bump it's makes like a sound thud an one more question how much for the front end

Not enough information to answer. Need manufacturer, year, model, and engine size in order to answer the question. That said, most late model cars use struts. Cost can vary by model and type of strut. Also, if strut mounts need replacement, they add to the cost. Labor varies based upon vehicle type. Front end alignment must accomplished after strut replacement on most vehicles. At a US shop, figure a minimum of $500.00 for parts and labor.

The piece that holds up the front passenger wheel (i believe its called a strut), is bent or broken, would u happen to kno how much that would approx. cost? its a 2002 chrysler sebring

$61 at autozone:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Gabriel-Ultra-Shock-Strut-Front/2002-Chrysler-Sebring/_/N-jh9olZ8oxxw?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=strut&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=602085_6880_2457_4299

The strut must be compressed for mounting. Labor is approximately 2 hours. Not sure what labor costs in your area or if your shop will allow you to bring strut or require you to buy from them.

How much should a mechanic charge to replace both rear struts and strut mounts on a 2000 Lexus ES300? How much to replace the front motor mount and the upper motor mount?

since it is a lexus i would not advise going cheap. the struts will probably cost around $350. the motor mounts will probably run around a grand since so much work is involved.

When can you expect to have strut problems? Looking at a 1999 Lexus ES 300 (121,000 mi.) and am trying to determine if it has a strut problem. Also, what would be the cost for replacement?

Odds are, at 120000+ miles, it could well stand some new struts.

A Monroe "Quick Strut" will probably run in the neighborhood of 225.00 / each. Be sure to replace both....don't do just 1.

Labor to install probably around $300 and don't forget alignment @ around $80.

All together,(parts, labor, alignment, etc.) you could be looking at $830.

To save money, you could possibly get just a replacement cartridge, rather than a complete new strut (spring and all) for around $75 each, but may incur a elevated labor due to having to dis-assemble / re-assemble the strut assembly.

My wifes taurus right rear strut is leaking fluid also sway bar mounting rod had a bolt snap off how much do you thinks it would cost to repair.thankyou.

Labor rates vary by location and shop, so it's hard to give an exact estimate. I will say that (if they are more than two years old) you should replace both rear struts, and if the front struts are more than about four years old, you most likely should replace them too.
Parts cost for the struts are about $100-$200 each depending on model and such. labor should be about the same amount. So you are looking at $400-$800 for both rear struts or $800-1600 for all four.
Assuming the bolt is not hard to reach to drill out, it should not be more than $50 or so. If it is hard to reach, it could be more.

Coil spring

If your car has over 75K miles on and the struts are original, I'd have the struts replaced. As for the coil spring, you can probably find a repair manual at your local library. You can get loaner spring and strut compressor tools at most auto parts stores (loaners are free, just have to leave a deposit for the price of the tool).

Repair cost will vary from place to place, but I'd say coil and strut replacement is about 4-5 hours labor. I'd guess a $300-$450 for parts and labor (coil - $100, pair struts - $140)
