Question about 2006 BMW 325i
When I turned on the car it started fine and then when I went to turn out of the driveway the power steering went out and no problems before led up to that. Then the battery light came up and there was a burning smell coming through the vents. Does this have anything to do with any belts in my engine? I had a problem before where there was a clunking noise when I accelerated and when in idle but now after this all happened it went away so I thought it might be a belt.
I would be checking the belt for condition and tension but I suspect that with the smell that the belt will need replacing. The only thing to cause the belt problem would be a failed (seized ) steering pump so when you have the belt off see if you turn the pump pulley by hand . As the belt will drive the alternator (battery light) also It points to the belt and the only real load is the pump when you turn the wheel

i have to admit without more detail it's hard to say.... my educated guess would be that one of the hoses to the transmission cooler has blow and needs to be replaced. do NOT drive the car till that is done.
