2002 nissan altima heater problem

have 2002 altima, blower works no heat at idle and very little heat when accelerating.I changed carbon cabin filter, made sure little gear under dash to temp knob wasnt broken, flushed and bled system.Nothing worked so checked hoses to heater core and found inlet hose was hot, outlet hose was not.So investigated this problem and came to conclusion heater core was clogged. An easy way to check is to get car to normal running temp. put on heater and blowers at full.Go under dash on passenger side where counsel meets firewall, this is where heater core core inlet and outlet aluminum tubbing go through firewall, you will be able to feel both tubes one closest to you is outlet, so if this one is not hot and and other is your heater core is clogged.I detached both inlet and outlet hoses to heater core from water control valve. Then I blasted water with waterhose and nozzle set at jet, first through outlet hose to blow gunk out, then through inlet hose until water runs clear.Reatach hoses fill and bled system.heater works great nice and hot!

Can the temperature control cable get bound-up or pinched on a 2002 altima? how can i get a schematic of the routing of this cable?

Sure can but you can see it under the hood next to the firewall right behind the middle of the motor. As you move the control for hot to cold the cable should move on the water control valve if it does the problem can be that the system is'nt full enough or the heater core is stopped up. if the cable does'nt move as you move the control the problem is most always at the control end of the cable and the heater control needs to be removed from the dash and the cable straighened and reconnected they seldom out right fail they just get ramed too fast when someone whats heat quickly and the cable bends instaed of moving the heater valve.

Nissan altima 2002 heater not getting hot

Try checking the heater control valve. Follow the heater hose from the engine, and as you get closer to the firewall, you should run into it. It is in line with the hose, and should have a vacuum hose connected to it. Apply vacuum to the valve and it should move. If not, then replace the valve. If there is no vacuum when engine running and heater turned on, then check the hose for leaks or the vacuum source.

No heat. Both thermostats replaced.

Pressure test the cooling system. Remove the spark plugs and inspect the top of the piston. Look for coolant. If you can see your own eye you found coolant. If the cooling system was properly bled and still no heat at idle you may find coolant in the cylinder. The head gasket would need to be replaced and the surfaces prepped. Machining the head is not recommended.
