- Engine will not startP0193 DescriptionThe Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor is a diaphragm strain gauge device in which resistance changes with pressure. The electrical resistance of a strain gauge increases as pressure increases, and the resistance decreases as the pressure decreases. The varying resistance affects the voltage drop across the sensor terminals and provides electrical signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) corresponding to pressure.

Strain gauge type sensors are consider passive sensors. A passive sensor is connected to a voltage divider network so that varying the resistance of the passive sensor causes a variation in total current flow.

Voltage that is dropped across a fixed resistor in series with the sensor resistor determines the voltage signal at the PCM. This voltage signal is equal to the reference voltage minus the voltage drop across the fixed resistor.

The FRP sensor measures the pressure of the fuel near the fuel injectors. This signal is used by the PCM to adjust the fuel injector pulse width and meter fuel to each combustion cylinder.P0193 Information for specific makesP0193 FORD

If you have replaced the sensor, check the wires at the back of the plug. Pull them one at a time, if they stretch it is a broken wire. When you get a high reading code. It is either it's unplugged or a wire is broken.

Your vehicle has no fuel pump relay . Has a fuel pump flow control module .
Fuel Pump Flow Control Module (FPCM)
The fuel pump flow control module (FPCM) is a serviceable GMLAN module. The FPCM receives the desired fuel pressure message from the engine control module (ECM) and controls the fuel pump located within the fuel tank to achieve the desired fuel pressure. The FPCM sends a PWM signal to the fuel pump, and pump speed is changed by varying the duty cycle of this signal.
Plus it has two fuel pumps !
The high pressure fuel pump (9) is a mechanical one cylinder design driven by an eccentric on the exhaust camshaft (1) of bank 2. High pressure fuel is regulated by the fuel rail pressure (FRP) regulator, which is a part of the high pressure fuel pump. The FRP regulator is a magnetic actuator which controls the inlet valve of the high pressure pump. The ECM provides battery voltage on the actuator high circuit and ground on the actuator low reference circuit. Both circuits are controlled by the ECM. When the ECM deactivates the FRP regulator, both circuits are disabled and the inlet valve is held open with spring pressure. When the ECM activates the FRP regulator, the low circuit driver connects the low reference circuit to ground and the high circuit driver pulse-width modulates (PWM) the high circuit. The ECM uses the camshaft and crankshaft position sensor inputs to synchronize the FRP regulator with the position of the eccentric on the camshaft. The ECM regulates fuel pressure by adjusting the portion of each pump stroke that provides fuel to the rail. The high pressure fuel pump also contains an integrated pressure relief valve.
Your best bet is have it towed to the dealer , you don't want to mess with the high pressure pump .

What does it mean when no fuel comes out of the fuel pressure regulator but there is fuel in the fuel rail?

fit a fuel pressure gauge and flow meter in the fuel line if the pressure is low replace the pump,if the flow is low replace the fuel filter, if the fuel pressure is high replace the fuel rail pressure regulator.

You may have pressure in the system, but the system will only work properly within a narrow pressure range - too low or too high will cause problems. Have the fuel pressure checked over several operating conditions (pressure too low is usually the pump or a rubber connector in the fuel line collapsing under high engine load, too high is usually the regulator).

I have a 1988 suburban 1500 4x4 5.7 liter v8. I replaced fuel pump and filter, will start and run for about 10 seconds then die and will not restart. Not getting fuel somehow. Injectors were also replaced....

Most likely it is the fuel pressure regulator..also check for spark here's some info for you.. The first thing to do is check for spark.

Disconnect #1 ignition wire at the spark plug.
Install a spark tester into the end of the spark plug boot.
Have an assistant crank the engine over and check for spark at the tester.
Repeat this process at each spark plug.
If any cylinder does not show spark, proceed to secondary component tests.
If ALL secondary components show no spark, test components individually.
If all cylinders test O.K., inspect for fouled spark plugs and clean or replace as necessary.


If spark checks out good, then you could have a fuel delivery problem. I would recommend to start by checking fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. All three must be check before replacing the pump! You can get a fuel pressure gage at a local auto parts store for cheap.

Fuel pressure testing is frequently overlooked but it is one of the common causes of poor performance. The test procedure must include testing that will insure normal
fuel pressure under all operating conditions.

1. Fuel demands are low at idle.

2. Wide open throttle at high engine revs uses the most fuel.

3. Port injection fuel pressure must be reduced when manifold vacuum is high. Vacuum pulls fuel out of the injector causing it to deliver too much fuel if the pressure remains high. Check for a fuel pressure regulator. If you are testing the pressure at the end of the line, the fuel has already passed through the regulator. I'd be willing to bet the pressure coming from the pump(s) directly is up to snuff.

Fuel pressure low on startup - have to go through 4 cranking cycles to get fuel pressure high enough to start

Check for a clog fuel filter or weak fuel pump, if that has been done, could be a back fuel pressure regulator, regulator is located on fuel injector rail.

Where is the fuel regulator located on a 1988 tbi

Sits inside the throttle body, you would have to open to install regulator. Also check your fuel filter make sure it's not clog, fuel filter is under truck on fram rail, while your there do a fuel pressure test, with a fuel pressure tester, should have 13psi.

I have 8000 miles on my Tucson check engine light came on at start up this morning...gas cap is problems?????

2005 Neon engine light came on and stays on. Car drives okay. Has around 34,000 miles. No other problems

Take it to Autozone or Advanced auto and get an engine diagnostic and ask them to printout the results. Most times it's a sensor.

Fuel pressure regulator

Have you checked the fuel pressure? If it is high and fuel is not returning, the regulator is bad. If it is low and fuel is not returning, the pump is bad.
