Question about 2006 Chevrolet Impala

2001 siloutte gauge says it is over heating check res, it is full until i loosen cap on rad. then res.flows in to rad.

The res should be only about 1/4 to 1/2 full there is a mark on the lower part of the container when it is cold. If it is full when it is cold there is too much fluid and will not allow the radiator to flow over into it when it gets hot. If it is too full take some of the fluid out down to the lower mark and make sure the cap is snapped on tight and the radiator cap is tight. Also checked to make sure that the rubber on the radiator cap is okay and that it is the right poundage for your car. Check at the parts store to see what Psi is suppose to be used on your car.

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport no heat but the fan works,what could the problem be?


Could be that the thermostat has packed up...

Check all your coolant levels are correct and then take her for a good run out....keep your eyes on the temperature gauge,,if your temp gauge hardly moves then your thermostat is at fault....replace it.

If temp gauge works fine, you may be airlocked in your heater matrix... Try setting heater to full heat with fan on full power,, whilst car is ticking over, remove radiator / expansion bottle cap carefully and start squeezing your coolant pipes. This should force any air out through your rad/bottle top..

Please be aware that as your temperature rises in the engine. Your coolant will expand and start to flow out of the rad/expansion bottle..at this stage quickly replace the cap....check your heater...leave engine to cool....unscrew rad/bottle cap, check coolant levels, top up if necessary and squeeze pipes again..start car with heater/fan on full and repeat above.....

air trapped in cooling system. Loosen cap, cold engine, fill rad & res. run engine at 2500 rpms to spin pump fast and it will purge out rad cap. tighten cap and keep res full until engine cools down and sucks coolant into rad.

My 2002 buick century overheats and has no heat


Possible trapped in system. Bleed system, should have two small screw bleeders, one in front of left valve cover on pipe behind water pump and the other on coolant pipe outlet as you follow upper rad. hose towards engine. Engine cool, remove rad cap, open both bleed screws and fill rad until coolant flows free out both bleed ports. close both bleed screws, rad cap off, start engine and let idle until upper hose is hot to touch , shut off, let it cool down for 20 minutes, top up rad and install cap. restart car ,drive and check.

Little or no heat


Is both heater hoses hot? Could need radiator and heater core flush. Water pump propellers could be detoriated. I have seen this on vehicles before. Just some ideas to look at.

The cars heat is fine then when i start to slow it starts to cool when i am idle it gets colder


you probably have air trapped in the cooling system.

try to burp air by loosening radiator cap with engine cold. Then as it heats up and thermostat opens (upper rad hose will be hot) and it should burp the air. Then shut off engine and top off radator and tighten cap. Keep reservoir full so radiator can **** the coolant into the engine.

This assumes the engine tempstays in normal range. If gauge drops to colder, then replace the thermostat.

How to get air out of a 2001 ford taurus after changing thermostat


run engine with the rad cap off. turn the heater on, set to panel, with the fan turned off. once there is heat in the car and the temp gauge is stabilized, you should be good to go. top up the coolant, put the rad cap back on, top up the over flow tank, go for a test drive and make sure everything works well.

My 2001 ford Taurus heating temp gauge is not constant on dashboard. It goes up and down. I don?t have heat. Water pump, thermostat, in and out pipe and coolant are changed. Still no heat.


Start the engine when cool, remove rad cap and start engine and let it run with the heater on. (not defrost) Top up coolant as needed in rad, and let it run until either the rad fan comes on and off 2 or 3 times, or you can see increased flow in rad from thermostat opening. It will obviously happen after it reaches operating temperature, so watch after gauge gets close to there. Wait until you see that flow 2 or 3 times or fan comes on and off before you put cap on, and fill return bottle to proper level as well. That should cure it, by getting air out of system, and coolant flowing through heater core.

Start vehicle when cold. remove rad cap, start engine & put heater on (not defrost) and let it run for a while & top up rad as coolant goes down, to about an inch or 2 from top of rad. If you have electric rad fans, watch temperature gauge and around normal operating temperature or slightly above, they should come on for a minute or 2 then shut off. If not electric fans, just watch in top of rad for increased flow through rad, indicating thermostat has opened & coolant is circulating. Rev engine slightly every once in a while for 5 or 10 seconds just to help increase flow etc to help assist bleeding air out faster. Watch for increased flow in rad, 2 or 3 times at least, or listen for fan to go on & off 2 or 3 times before putting rad cap back on. As your doing this, keep topping up rad if it needs it. Make sure rad cap on all the way, check coolant return bottle level & add to mark if required, and you should be good to go. One of the things people forget to do the most, is to turn heater on while doing this, and that is usually what causes a lot of airlocks in the system, so don't forget that step.

No heat in car and temp gauge rises while driving but stays half


With engine cold, remove rad cap & check level in rad. Top it up if needed to 1 or 2 inches from top. Start engine, turn heater on (not defrost) and observe coolant level as engine warms up, add if necessary. Radiator fan should be off, and only come on when engine reaches normal operating temperature, for a short time, then shut off again. Let it run until that happens about 3 times, then put rad cap back on. If temperature gauge climbs up over normal toward hot, too much, shut it off. Do you now have heat? Is rad fan acting as I described? Let me know.

That is a bleeder, but if you can't get it loose, just start engine with cap off & watch flow, and let air bleed out through top. I usually let coolant circulate through 2 or 3 cycles before I put cap back on. By cycles I mean, when cold, remove cap,start car, TURN HEATER ON, and let it run until it's up to running temperature, then pay attention to temperature gauge, and flow in radiator. When at normal running temperature, you'll eventually see the flow increase in your rad when thermostat opens, and shortly therafter your rad fan will probably start to cool the incoming coolant. Watch for bubbles when flow increases, which is the air bleeding out of the system. Let it do that about 3 times before you put cap on, then take it for a short drive, come back, shut it off and let it sit & cool down again. You may get coolant returning to bottle but that's normal. If your getting excessive or continuous bubbling from rad, it may be indicating a bad head gasket or head, but lets not go there yet.One other thing to try, is if you go for a drive and it starts to heat up, turn your heater on high heat & high fan setting, and see if gauge goes down. If that makes it run cooler, your probaly looking at a new rad.
