Your motor for the temp door may not be working. It is all the way under the dash, toward the back, may be able to reach it and put your hand on it from under the driver-side foot well- but with the windows up so you can hear, listen to hear if the motor runs when operating the temp from cold to hot. If you have Climatronic, take a deep look at Climatronic blend door motor. The Climatronic is a fully controlled system. You absolutely need to use a scan tool to access the diagnostics and code memory. You may just need to clear the DTCs for compressor operation. Also, these are known for temp sensor problems causing no compressor operation. You pressure readings to indicate the clutch is not engaging. If you do need to replace your ac compressor this site looks like it has cheap prices, free shipping and great reviews http://www.buyautoparts.com/autoparts/Volkswagen/Golf/A-C_Compressor.html
Your AC compressor is activated via Climatronic control. The system regulates inside temperature activating the compressor or opening the flap from the heater core. This will be automatic when you set the temp you desired inside the vehicle. Unless you see the words ECON on the right side of the LCD display, your AC compressor will be engaged and the rad fan will operate to prevent the engine from over heating. Press ECON until you see it displayed and it will disengage the compressor and use only the interior blower fan to regulate the inside temp by opening the outside air flap and not from the AC.
if its got climatronic just lower the car interior temp with the ble buttons and make sure the little econ symbol is not showing....if its got climatic you just press the a/c button
Well i think its a compressor problem. Check out if there is no gas leak in any of the cooling pipes. Its long since brought your esteem, check the blower speed also, it also makes a diffrence in cooling.
Fitting a new climate control system would reduce your mileage and can even make you change your battery and reduce the life of your engine.
