SOURCE: Large vacuum leak

The same problem happened to me and tightened the gas cap with some plastic bag. The problem gone and came back after 10 days. I reset the code with a blue tooth dongle with torque android app. This time I re-tightened the gas cap with a plastic bag again until the cap clicks three times. I passed inspection and did not come back till 170 miles. I am planning to replace the cap. If the cap is not original the problem may come again( according to what I read).

Why check engine light and code P0540 Large Evap Leak

did you reset codes after every repair ? is it a newer car ? there is a sensor in canister called a netural pressure vapor sensor they tend to leak or stick .causing evap codes , I chased the same code ,it would go out for about a week then come back in my case it was the new gas cap it was the wrong one for my car. it keeped building pressure in gas tank . and could hear it hissss when I would open it fuel up .

Why does gas cap light come on even after replacing with new oem cap

Thats because there is a bad sensor (vacuum pressure) located on the top of the fuel tank. Could be a vacuum leak somewhere else, improper vacuum line connection @ intake vacuum source,or a bad solenoid vacuum switch. my guess-bad snsor.

Runs good engine lt on code p0455

A loose gas cap or bad gas cap can cause this ,or filling gas tank while it running .or it could be a small leak in the evap system

I have a 2004 town and country. I have had codes po440 on for about 9 months with no symptoms. Then po456 showed up. My van started surging wanting to take off after filling the tank. Then it would not...

code p0440 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system--malfunction===causes -hose connections--intake leak--EVAP canister
code po456 refers to the evaporative emission system--very small leak detected===causes --mechanical fault--hose---EVAP pressure sensor. The cracked hos may be the fault but I would be looking at the canister for the fault.

Ford f250 runs ruff and will not idle

fuel pressure should be 35 - 45 psi.could have faulty tps sensor.could have intake vacuum leak or ignition timing valve timing off due to worn timing chain.do engine vacuum test replace all vacuum hoses bad leaking egr valve diaphram or gasket will cause engine run poorly.

Check engine light on codes p0442 p0456 p0513

P0442 and P0456 are both evaporative emission error codes due to a small leak. The most common cause is a leaking gas cap or hose leak on that system. I did not list a code for your 0513. I am sending you a little information about your problem.. Best of Luck to you..

Check engine light is on with trouble codes P0442 and P0456. The codes are evaporative system small leak codes.
1. Verify that the gas cap is a factory Toyota gas cap and visually inspect that all hoses and lines are tight and connected.

2. Locate the canister closed solenoid and the vacuum switching valve on the canister. Manually ground them and verify that they operate and function. The canister closed solenoid is normally open and should close when grounded. The vacuum switching valve on the canister is normally closed and needs to open when grounded.

3. Verify that the hoses are not loose or pulled off the canister closed valve on the air cleaner housing. This has been a common problem on some models.

4. If no problem is found, the next step is to ground the canister closed solenoid and the vacuum switching valve under the vehicle and simulate an evaporative test and verify that the system holds a vacuum and functions normally. When the solenoids are grounded, back probe the Blue/Black (L/B) wire on the pressure sensor, and with no vacuum or pressure, the voltage should read around 3.3 volts. Start up the vehicle and turn on the purge vacuum switching valve and use engine vacuum to draw down the system to around 2 volts on the pressure sensor. If the voltage does not increase rapidly, there is no problem. If the voltage increases quickly, look for the leak in the evaporative system. Potential Causes: Canister Closed Valve
Disconnected Canister Closed Valve (CCV) Hose
Gas Cap
Harness
Vacuum Switching Valve - For the pressure sensor.

what code is it?po440,p0455?If it is one of those codes it means you have a large evap system leak not a vacuum leak by the engine.the evap leak is most likely a inop vent valve or a fuel cap not properly sealing.

Check if the engine is over heating, such as the thermostat. But don't forget to check that the heat riser opens on the exhaust manifold. In general, popping is either too lean or bad timing. Check for vacuum buildup in gas tank by listening for whoosh when you open cap. Check for vacuum leak with vacuum gauge attached to manifold. Check for plugged catalytic converter if the old motor was dumping oil, by attaching pressure gauge to oxygen sensor port. Check timing. See if power loss is all cylinders or just one, by removing plug wires one at a time. Finally, check oxygen sensor with ohmmeter (sorry I don't know the expected reading.)

Error codes po454 and po455. What do I have to do to fix these?

Any chance it occurred soon after filling up or adding fuel. ? Start by removing gas cap, cleaning the seal good on it, as well as threads and surface where cap seals in filler neck. Quite often it's just a bad/loose seal at gas cap. If that doesn't do it, you may need to replace cap, but check all your vacuum lines etc, just in case, if cleaning and making sure cap is tight doesn't do it.
