First, go to aboutautomobile.com and look up yourvehicle and a year or so forward and backwards. Under body hardware catagory see if there are any reports to the NHTSA. If there are reports, get the Complaint#, NHTSA# and resolution.
You may have binding in the doorlock mechanism. The rear hatches and hinges were recalled on some Explorers, again check the site for the back hatch.
A glass shop routinely take apart doors to insert new glass. They would be able to adjust a door, as well as a Collision shop. The breaking of the handle can easily be the result of door alignment and bad door hinges. You are needing to use too much force in opening the mechanism.
the sequoia hatchback handle breaking is a known problem due to the extremely low quality of the plastic. 1st you have to open the back door! there is a small pin to the right side of the hatchback door exterior handle. bend a coat hanger and put it on the small pin, pull down and the door will open. Then remove inside panel and you can undo screws and replace the hatchback door handle.
Start by removing the front door rear view mirror interior cosmetic piece. Remove the 3 large nuts holding the mirror on and take it off the car. Lift the door handle up and push the two small handle retaining pins out, take off the door handle. Unscrew all the bolts holding the door panel onto the frame, special driver needed. Lift the door panel up and away from the door. Reinstall in reverse order. If you are doing a back door, omit the mirror part.
Sounds like the old rusty handle problem. I have found that the handle does not return all the way and it will not let it unlock. Push the handle toward the closed position and try to unlock then open. If this is the problem all you need to do is remove the rust and keep it oiled. Hope this helps and have a great day.
hi jim, try lifting up on the driver's outside door handle slowly while turning the key in the unlock position. The lock cylinder design has a cam on it that usually will catch while lifting the handle. if you have no luck on the driver's side, try the same thing on the passenger's side. be patient, it make take a few tries before the door unlocks.
Not sore if you have the answer or not. Here it is. MANUALLY place interior door lock latch in the UNLOCK position. Now LIFT UP outside door handle as if opening. While holding it up with your finger ( no prying ) lift up closed latch. Now you should be able to close your door normally.
