No just make sure your emergency cable is off and take a large hammer an hit it around the edge or corner lightly and spin at the same time also try pulling with your other hand as you spin this is a technique all mechanics use its very unlikely that you will have to loosen up the shoes with a brake spoon.REMEMBER THE OUTER ROUNDED EDGE ONLY WHERE ITS THE THICKIST.

SOURCE: 1999 dodge grand caravan, noise from right rear wheel area.

It is due to the sway bar links, The problem is that sometime it does not tight till end and it is loose at the sway bar end.
Its very difficult to repair, open most of the time it needs to cut out due to rust and bad design of the end.
You need to replace it with new and make sure it is tight and does not have any play.

It could well be in need of new brake pads however this would be noticable more when you apply the brakes if the sound is in the rear its not the front brakes it could also be your wheel hub bearings are past there used by date its a serious problem and needs attension right away

Screeching noise coming from driver side tire

The high pitch sound may come from the brake pads as metal parts hit the disc to signal the owner that it needs change. The metal parts gets exposed when the pads have worn out. The brake also has a hub to cover the disc. See if the metal plate is hitting it but this issue would appear when the wheels are in motion. Check if it is the belts, have the tension checked out. Other than that the bearings are the other items on your wheel that could cause a high pitched sound when you car is in motion.

2000 dodge caravan, when brakes are applied, getting a loud knocking noise coming from the passenger side rear tire. Any advise? Keith

Look to make sure your brake caliper bolts are secure as the can back out and contact the wheel itself. You can feel around the whell for and gouges or scraping to confirm this. It is a stretch but there may be some foriegn object stuck under there as well.

Sure sounds like you need new brake pads. On the brake pad is a small metal tab that contacts the rotor and squeals when the pads need to be changed. Hope this helps. Please keep me posted. Good luck
