Who did the water pump replacement? Replacing the water pump required the removal of the timing chain. If, during the removal and replacement of the timing chain, the camshaft sprockets were not doweled into place, they would need to be rotated to regain proper timing. If the crankshaft was not properly positioned when this was done, or was rotated too far or in the wrong direction, severe damage to the valves and pistons would have occurred. This would result in no compression and the vehicle not starting. I would pull the plugs and do a compression check before anything else. If the compression test fails, you need to pull the engine apart and prepare for some hefty expense for repairs.

Testimonial: "The cars had the water pump replacement done 3 1/2 months ago and had been working fine. When I took it to a shop when it first decided not to start, they said it started for them and so they couldnt tell what was wrong. When the had the car they ran a check on the furl pump and said it checked out, but now the car wont start again. It just tries to turn over but wont start."

SOURCE: 2003 Chevy Cavalier not starting

When you turn the key, you should hear the fuel pump make a whiring noise as it dispenses the fuel. If there is no noise. the fuel pump is not working.

Have you checked the fuel shutoff inertia switch.?
Check your owners manual for location.

Ichange the inition cilender on my 97 chevy

When you changed the cylinder, you also changed the key, in the key is a chip the allows the antitheft to turn off and you need to reset the antitheft to the new key. A dealer job unfortunatly.

Start problems chevy cavalier z-24 1898

You would need to check to make sure you have spark coming from the coil. Make sure you have fuel spraying from the fuel pressure valve. Make sure the distributor cap is not damaged and you have the correct timing set for the spark plugs, consult owners manual.

1996 Chevy Cavalier

your car does not have a timing belt it has a chain. but yes if the pump is driven by timing belt and it starts leaking the coolant gets on belt and it will fail. if your car has the 2.4 engine the water pump runs off of the timing chain and depending on mileage it would be smart to go ahead and replace it since it will be tore down anyway will save on labor

Wontstart

If the fuel pump is working, fuel should be reaching the motor. Otherwise, you need to check the fuel pressure regulator. Depending on the location, if it is before the motor and the regulator is bad, then the fuel wont pass through.
Did you check for spark from the wires? My experience with Chevy Cavaliers is usually electrical but not fuel related.
