My car has a/c as long as one of the fuses is in but once you take it out then you have heat. However, the heat will blow out of the vents, and out of the defroster but will not defrost my windshield please help me.
SOURCE: My front defroster doesn't work
Their is a vacuum actuated valve that redirects the flow of air from the panel to the defrost vents when the defrost is selected. I would check the vacuum line running to the valve while the vehicle is running with the defroster on and check whether or not the line is pulling a vacuum to actuate the valve, if not you obviously have a bad line or vacuum line fitting. If you have suction on the vacuum you will need to check the valve and see that is functioning properly. The valve is usually located under the dash on the passengers side. If you are mechanically inclined i would go to a local auto part store and pick up a repair manual for your car for about $20 as they contain diagrams and info that will save you alot of money.

SOURCE: Heat wont blow through heater or defroster vents
common problem, check under dash by the gas pedal if control arms are muving went selecting from ac to heat cuz this it is the control for the vents to go from ac to heat and to defrost.
SOURCE: PROBLEM WHEN SELECTING THE DIRECTION FOR THE AIR
Sounds like you have a supply vacuum problem. When you lose supply vacuum to the control head it defaults to defrost.
SOURCE: a/c and heater only blow air out of defrost
either a vacumn pipe is broken or the ends split so its not passing a vacumn to open the flaps, where they are and how to get to them i cant help because i have never worked on one as they are not here in spain.check the engine end first though .Look for some small rubber pipes running from the inlet manifold
SOURCE: A/C blows cold on floor and windshield, not thru dash vents
This recently happened to my mustang and I found a broken vacuum line that connected to a "vaccum block". I'm not sure of the name but if you follow the vacuum line from the master cylinder it will lead ya right to it!

It's a 1998 eagle talon. I bought a heater core took it to a mechanic and he claimed that the heater core was not leaking and that my problem was just simply a fuse. However it did not fix my problem. All the fuse seemed to do was help me have heat finally. There is a smell in there and I thought it was antifreeze again he claimed that it wasn't leaking. Do I need to take it to another mechanic? My mechanic said it was heater control panel or something like that.
You replaced the heater core, was the old heater core leaking? or possibly the connection at the core tube that could force coolant into the heater plenum? If coolant remains in the plenum the moisture will continue to slow defrost function and the odor of the coolant will stay for a long time as the coolant is oily and does not evaporate well in an inclosed area.
The heater control panel is the part of the heater that you actually see, normally 3 knobs that control air direction, temperature and fan speed. These will have nothing to do with the coolant odor. Your mechanic is probably correct with what he tells you, The issue is probably coolant that has been inclosed in the plenum. After a while the odor will disapate the moisture , normally attached to the doors in the case, will dry out and the defroster will work well again. Give it a weekk or two.
Thanks for your help. Mike. The mechanic did not replace the heater core and said that just to fix the heater control panel thing would cost so much. Any ideas on where to get the part for this at for a reasonable price? Also, is my heater/defroster suppose to use the a/c whenever it comes on? I know that some cars it does work off of the a/c but all of this car stuff is confusing since I'm a girl.
What make year is your vehicle? I may have what you need or be able tohelp you find something.
It's a 1998 eagle talon the last year they were made.
I do not have a control for that, I would suggest an auto recycler Even a new control is not expensive though. Normally $30 to $50. The expense is removal and installation if you can not do it yourself.
Well, I can't do it myself. I don't know much about cars. So a newer control from like an eclipse would work? And thanks again for trying. That was nice of you.
