i have yr2000 polo 1.416v but older model. i think its the same engine as golf. first started by cutting out when slowing down for junctions now sometimes it wont start at all. Garage started it on quick start and said it was a fuel problem and said fuel filter was full of gunk and replaced it. The day after its cutting out again. Somebody has suggested it might be the immobiliser and somebody else said its something to do with a sensor or module. Diagnosing the problem is my biggest worry as its expensive to keep trying different things and i've been told that it will not neccesarily show up on a diognostics machine as there are no lights coming up on the dash except the battery light which i know it isnt. Anybody had the same problem? or know any common faults?

What could be the cause of rough idle, smoke, engine cut off while driving in my vw golf mk4. All of a sudden it happened. I replaced the spark plugs, filter elements, and cleaned the throttle, to no...

What color is the smoke? White smoke is oil burning, black is fuel. There are a dozen things that could cause the symptoms you describe. Faulty fuel pump, dirty injectors, ignition system fault, cracked cylinder head, bad fuel, faulty engine sensor (MAP, OXY) etc. Really need to find a mechanic who can look at it in person.

I'm having rough idle and smoke all of a sudden with my golf mk4 The oil warning lights up in dash. Oil level ok. Spark plugs not burning well. Replace spark plugs, changed oil filter, changed

Smoke is not a good sign. Running rough is not a good sign. Oil light not a good sign. You could have a combination of bad things, most likely expensive. Suggest professional help. Smoke can be bad rings or holed piston. Low oil pressure can be bad bearing or oil pump.

The spark plugs are placed under engine cover. See the picture below:

Hi i have a mk4 golf, my front wipers were slow but now have stopped altogether, any ideas what problem could be?

If they slowly died it is most likely the wiper motor. Over time the brushes in the motor will wear down and the motor will need replacement.

My vw golf 1995 keeps cutting out when I slow down any answers to why?

Could be alot of possibilities. When was last tune up - filters, spark plugs etc? A partially clogged fuel filter is highly suspect.

Mk4 golf 1.4 2001 rev counter fluctuates engine cuts out when slowing down and fuel consumption is really bad

Hi crossley 82
Check the engine coolant sensor. This sensor controls the fuel / air mixture, and was a common problem on that model.
Best of luck

My golf (2000) was doing the same to me. it occured to be the faulty EGR valve (it was closing and cutting the engin off) needed to have it replaced
