Define haywire.?

dead, off, and is odometer off too?
stopped, you mean the car stalled?

when the engine stalls you see the following (driving school 101)
1: quiet , now. from engine.
2: steering and braking get harder. up to 6 times harder.
3: RPM tachometer shows 0 RPM.
4: Speed drops and lands on zero as car stops or you run out of down hill free right.

so did engine stall? does it restart,?

Am wondering if a 2004 GMC Envoy instrument cluster will work in my 2004 Chevy Silverado Z71.

Call your local GM dealer and have them check part numbers. I don't believe it will. If the stepper motors went out and the needles go haywire you should have the unit repaired for around 120$ most places will charge. US Speedo The Industry Leader in Everything Speedometer

Take it back to the guy who changed the brakes it sounds as they are dragging or to tight and dragging the vehicle down. May not be fix but I would start there or maybe the emergency brake is set.

Hola..! 2 Problems with this trcuk. #1. I went on a trip this weekend on the way back home my speedometer went crazy registering 110 when I was really going maybe 65 to 70 miles. When I stop the vehicle...

Hola! Cheapest thing to do without replacing the entire cluster gauge assembly is to replace the little stepper motor in the back of the speedometer.

I have not seen problems with the back door "jamming". I have seen problems with the wiring at the top of the door rubbing against metal, shorting out the locking mechanism, which would prevent from locking or would stay locked. Otherwise, could be the locking actuator module going haywire, or it could be relay #8 in the fuse box.
