I recently purchased a 2007 sequoia with 10k mi. Vehicle seems ok but when you start the car it revs to 1700 rpm and takes about 15 sec. to slow down enough to put it in gear. Dealer said this is normal but I do not believe this. Seems like this could be very hard on the engine. Any input would be helpful. Thanks Jim
It is Not a normal problem, on start up that is when there is no oil on any parts, It sounds like a idle shift solenoid screwing up, One other guy mentioned the battery, and it is possible for low voltage to cause all kinds of problems on a car, so it would be a good ideal to pull the posts and clean them and test with an ohm meter to see if there is to much resistance between the battery cable and ground. But I can't believe it's normal.
Hello- we purchased a 2006 Sequoia a few months back, it was really reved up, thought it was high and asked the dealer they said it was normal. Not so, we had to purchase a new pattery 30 days after we got the Sequioa and when we installed the NEW battery , it sounded so quiet! My dad suggested to remove the battery cable on all used cars to reset factory settings! So go take your battery cables off and reset that bad boy. You'll hear the difference.
Its normal for every toyota to do this. its not hard on you engine it helps remove carbon build up
