Engine turns over, but will not start. I have replaced the fuel filter, wires, plugs, will start when starting fluid is introduced into the air intake. could it possibly be a blown ecm fuse.

Pump should run with key on till it builds up pressure. To check coil, hold wire about a quarter inch from block and have someone crank engine. Spark should be strong and bluish (is that a word?) Anyhow, if coil is good, do the same thing again, only with a spark plug wire (any one you can easily reach) PS you did get the firing order right when you changed them? If there is no spark, check :Crank sensor is a bit harder to check.... First, check codes: Turn ign switch on and off three times, leaving it on the third time: check engine light will flash. read as follows: one flash= the number one etc. there is a pause between flashes: one flash, pause, two flashes= the number twelve. Ignore code 55 it just means the computer is finished sending codes. Code 11 is the crank sensor. To further check, disconnect the sensor harness and check for continuity between b&c terminals (connector should be marked) there should be no continuity when checked with an ohmeter between these two terminals. Crank sensor is on the left side of the bellhousing just where it's a real pain to reach it! Harness connector is on the firewall near or below the back of the engine on the drivers side.

COULD BE A COUPLE OF THINGS. NO SPARK COULD BE A BAD COIL. I DON;T KNOW IF YOU HAVE THE OLD OR NEW TYPE OF COIL. YOUR NO FUEL PROBLEM COULD BE THE FUEL PUMP IN THE FUEL TANK. JEEPS WERE NOTED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS A CAP YOU CAN TAKE OFF THE FUEL RAIL IF IT IS FUEL INJECTED AND TURN THE KEY ON TO SEE IF THE PUMP IS WORKING. BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS AS FUEL WILL SPRAY EVERYWHERE IF THE PUMP IS WORKING. THAT WILL BE A FIRE HAZARD IF CONTACT IS MADE WITH AN ELECTRICAL SPARK. USE CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THIS ITEM.

Do this, take the top off the carb, being careful not to damage the gasket. Then take some carb cleaner and clean out the bowl and floats. Remove the needle valve and clean it out. Put it all back together and filling the bowl with carb cleaner. Start it with the starting fluid. Once you run the carb cleaner through it, it should start to run on it's own. Whatever you do don't shut it off for about 20-30 min unless you have to.

the crankshaft position sensor controls spark and if faulty would give the symptons you have described you need to get this checked first

First of all, the fuel pump is generally located in the fuel tank, not always though. Yours probably is, in did not research it. The fuel electric fuel pump turns on only when the ignition key switch is turned to the start position and then left on. A series of one or two relays along with a pressure monitor in the fuel rail delivery system may or not cycle it on and off depending on design. Enough of that. I suggest that you remove the spark plugs to see if they are oil/heavy cabon deposits. If so, professional attention is reguired. One more thing you could try is replacing the spark plug wires. the may be old/worn out/damage. This would give the engine spark a stronger spark,if worn and also replace the spark plugs.
If a starter is able to crank the engine but it won't start you usually have either an electrical or fuel problem. It's also remotely possibly that it's compression.
If an engine has proper fuel, spark and compression, it will start when you crank it. So your challange is to find out which part isn't working right. Start with fuel. Spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while someone tries to start the engine. If it starts briefly when you're spraying starting fluid, you probably have a fuel delivery problem. That could be injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, relay, fuse... who knows what until you check into it.
If it doesn't start with starting fluid, check the spark. Pull a plug wire and attach it to a spare sparkplug and set the plug on a solid metal part of the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch the plug. If you have a good spark, it might just be out of timing.
In any case, you'll need to start isolating the problem. Find out which part isn't working then you'll know what to replace/repair.
