2003 GMC 6 cylinder pickup with Carb. no fuel injection. Motor will not stay running when any throttle is added. It idles for a few seconds and actually sounds smooth until gas is added. After a few seconds the idle would start to drop so naturally increasing the throttle would be required however that kills the motor instantly.

could be bad glow plugs or plug heaters, faulty wiring to the coil, vacuum leak.

Sounds like the fuel pump is going out. Replace the filter first, as it's only $10. If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably the pump, which is $250.
