Hi Jack, Is the sound constant through the entire rev range or does it come and go? If the knocking is constant there is a probability it is caused by incorrect and loose valve adjustments. If the sound comes and goes it will most likely be a defective bearing, if the sound is from the top of the engine, it could be a dudgeon pin bearing (Otherwise known as a small end bearing) It connects the piston to the connecting rod. However there are many other components which may result in similar sounds. Regards John

Have a knock in my 2000 2.5 jeep cherokee just had the head rebuilt new lifters and pushrods can't ajust rockerarm it's torque to the right setting

I'm not sure where your knock is coming from, but If you rev your engine up and the knock becomes faster and louder you may have a bad rod bearing. If this is the case and you haven't ran your engine too much it is possible to put a new set of bearings in it and you'll be ready to go. But it is possible that you have spun a bearing and the crank would be ruined. Hope that's not where your knock is. Hope this helps, Jeff Horton

I have a 1991 lincoln continental. It is making a loud tapping or knocking noise. Sounds like from the top of the engine. It won't run properly, hesitating, sounds like it's running out of gas. I had a guy...

yes that could do it as well as a flat lob on the camshaft or a bad intake valve, pull the valve covers and see if there is a loose rocker arm or maybe one has come off,if it is in the upper valve train it shouldn't be to hard to find.........GOOD LUCK

There is a loud knocking noise under the right valve cover, what could be the cause?

It could be a collapsed lifter, a bent pushrod or a bad rocker arm. It could also be a bad piston wrist pin or rod bearing, and the noise sounds like it's up top.

I have a 2007 Chrysler 300. I have a knocking noise and the mechanic said its a lifter that is stuck and would recommend a dealer. I tried the treatments from O'Reilly's and Auto Zone and they work right...

If your 300 is equipped with a 3.5L engine, high miles, sretched oil changes, the only fix is replacing the rocker shaft assemblys,
they come complete with updated lash adjusters, remove the intake, coils, covers, and rockers, should take you about a couple of hours. there is no cheap fix, sorry. GOOD LUCK. RDJRP

Light tapping driver side valve cover in rear area 1973 chevy small block corvette engine. when engine rives up the tapping gets a little louder, the tapping is light, not a deep knocking sound.

The valves are out of adjustment or possibly a lifter is collapsed. A service manual or many sites online can provide you with information and a few different methods of adjusting the valves.

There is an engine knock or loud ticking all the time. It seems to be coming from the right cylinder bank area. When I disconnect the wires to the different coils it changes. there could be more than one...

You are right, most likely a lifter !!Crank shaft bearing (rod) may be, or a broken piston ring will do it also, while you have it apart check these!

It is generally just a noisy lifter. This happens to about every 3.2 liter isuzu I have ever seen and didn't really hurt the performance.
