I checked a couple of spec sheets and it looks like there may have been an option for a remote trunk release but it was not standard equipment. If your car had the option it was probably near the driver seat and door.
The battery light is directly connected to the alternator. So, if you continue to run the engine with this light on, it will eventually quit working due to a lack of voltage from the battery.
Please replace the alternator, and recheck for the light.
