1995 Grand Cerokee Power Steering Pump

I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 5.2 V8. I replaced the power steering pump and pulley and the assembly. The pulley dosn't line up with the other pulleys for the surpentine belt. The pump assembly is 3/8" too far from the engine block. The pulley is completely pressed in place on the pump. I've tried multiple pumps from different auto parts suppliers. Where can I get the correct assembly or is there an offset pulley available?

Thanks for advice. But... The pulley is pressed on the shaft all the way to the pump. It can't go any farther. I've already turned in the old pump for the core charge. (of course)

As you mentioned, the pulley is pressed on. Many parts stores have machine shops that can move the pulley on the shaft using a press. It's best that you bring the old pump with you so whoever does the work can match the old one. Otherwise, measure the best you can. This is not a "trick" but actually how this is done!

I'd check with the place you bought it...they may still have the old pump?

1997 Jeep grand Cherokee limited 5.2l v8....how to fix very stiff steering. I have changed the power steering pump already an it is still hard to turn my wheels

sound like lack of lubrication at the steering joints, your ball joints need greasing and make sure you bleed power steering system, check power steering fluid level.if low more like power steering system full of air need bleeding.

Why is my 93 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.2 v8 whining?

Did you check all the fluids? Power steering can whine when fluid levels get low. I would think of things that are driven by the engine: power steering pump (check the power steering fluid), AC compressor, water pump, and so on.

Check out the belt tensioner; make sure it's not too tight, and that the pulley is properly lubricated. If that doesn't fix it, ask your mechanic about timing belt issues (fairly soon).

Hope helps.

Driving down the road and the power steering went out. Lifted hood, and belt is trying to turn but slipping. Looks like radiator may be starting to let out steam. Any ideas?

Maybe your power steering pump went. if the belt is not wet, but still tries to slip on the power steering pump pulley, the pump is probably starting to seize up. Did you check your power steering fluid? Try to remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley, then turn the pulley by hand to see if the pump is seized

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee squeaking and power steering

It very well could be the pawer steering pump. But to isolate the squeking sound, take that can of wd-40 and find the idler pully and tensior pully. Spray the bearing area of both pulleys. If your bearing in those pulleys are going bad then it will make that noise. If the wd-40 quits the noise at one of those tow pulleys then you know which one to replace. If its does not, then start looking to replace the powersteering pump. I take it you have checked the power steering fluid levels and they are ok?? Also, you stated that the noise started after you bought the alternator, then try a new alternator. It might of just been a faulty alternator. Happens all the time. One last inexpensive tip is replacing all belts with new. Belts get glazed over and dirty and cause noise too. One last question. Did you make sure the belts were tight enough? Just a little variance in the belt tension can make the difference.

(1)I am replacing a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo(not Limited)Power steering pump (AC - 6 cycl.). I wnet to the junk yard and got one off a '93 I believe. I got the old one off and ready to install

Check with the junkyard where you got the pump...you may need to change the pump bracket with the pump, or use a different pump.
You don't have a separate tensioner the pump is on a slide mount and is the tensioner (why the parts guy is a parts guy not a tech).

Power steering pump

First check the distance from the bracket mount points on the block, to the pump mount points on both brackets. If distance is different then the brackets are different. If they are the same, you may need to either change pump itself to one that matches engine year. However, if there is sufficient room on the pump shaft, any shop that rebuilds pumps can re-position the pulley to your specs, or replace the pulley with one that has a different offset.
