The hold light flashing on my1996 mazda proceed

is this car the all alluminium xk model ? if so it sounds like a bad earth the earth studs are all bonded to the body and are prone to detatching from the body and causing all strange probs. the favorite ones are both front behind the wheel arch liners, if its the older xk still sounds like a bad earth poss behind the headlamps. the only other probs i had was wires coming detatched/poor connection from the column switch, hope this helps

Problem with the electronic throttle control .
It should be noted that the ETC system includes a wrench light on the instrument cluster that illuminates when a fault is detected. Faults are also accompanied by DTCS and the "Check Engine Soon" light. Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a reputable ASE certified repair shop .
Overview The Generation II (Gen II) Torque Based Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) is a hardware and software strategy that delivers a transmission output shaft torque (via throttle angle) based on driver demand (pedal position). It utilizes an electronic throttle body, the PCM and a accelerator pedal assembly to control throttle opening and engine torque. The ETC system basically replaces the standard cable operated accelerator pedal, idle air control (IAC) motor, 3-wire throttle position sensor (TPS) and mechanical throttle body .

The car and key looking light are immoblizer or security system warning. If it illuminates briefely with the other dash warning lights when key is turned on and then goes out it is just performing a bulb check. It light remains illuminated, flashes, or vehicle will not start with either conditions of the light then your security system has been activated. The system is looking at a computer chip that is built into your key. If chip signal does not match one that has been programmed to start the vehicle then it will not start for anti theft purposes. Any new keys need to be programed with an external computer to start the vehicle. Interference with key signal can occur if on a key ring with other keys from other cars or same car that has a chip. Remove from keychain if using a key that has worked in the past.

does this one have just one button to turn cruise on and off.
If so it sounds like the switch needs to be replaced

take it and get it scanned for codes. auto zone or advance auto will do it for free

Most common cause is a faulty throttle position sensor. The next one in line is a bad mass air flow sensor or bad egr. The only way to know which is to pull the codes. If the check engine light is on or even flashed aside from when starting the vehicle then the computer has retained a code. Most auto part store can pull the code for free.

If you have an obd reader, there is a wire under the hood on the passenger side where obd connector can be plugged

adjust air intake control and throttle position to get the best air/gas mixture.

• Turn the ignition key to the OFF position with the odometer reading shown.
• Turn the ignition key to the ON position while holding down the trip meter reset button.
• Hold down the button until the light goes off.
• Before the light goes off, it illuminates for 3 seconds, flashes for 2 seconds, and illuminates for 1 second. If the system fails to reset, the light will remain flashing
