Without more information or testing its impossible to help diagnose this problem. However, when is the last time the oxygen sensor been replaced. My best guess in this situation and remember that this is not a easy item to replace as it is located within the exhaust system and is usually corroded.

1996 Volvo GLT 2.0 valve, got two codes need to know what to do to fix them P0440, P0172.

code p 0440 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system---malfunction===causes ---hose connections ---intake leak---EVAP canister purge valve
probably the purge valve needs replacing

code p 0172 refers to system too lean, bank 1===causes --intake blocked , EVAP canister purge valve ---fuel pressure ---EGR system---injector/s HO2S
you will notice that the purge valve is in both codes and it also affects the fuel pressure by not venting the tank correctly
That will account for the fuel pressure problem
I would seek advice from an accredited service specialist that works on your type of car but I would be paying attention to the common fault ( purge valve) before any thing else

Code p0443

Fault Code:- P0443 Indicates a Power-train fault

The fault is generally due to a problem in the Emission Control area

Fault Description: EVAP canister purge valve circuit malfunction

Action of ECM:- ECM Default: - Canister purge inhibited - Adaptive fuel metering inhibited

After clearing the DTC, complete the Purge system monitor drivecycle
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.

Possible Fault:- EVAP Canister purge valve to ECM drive circuit: open circuit, short circuit, high resistance EVAP Canister purge valve power supply circuit: open circuit, short circuit EVAP Canister purge valve operating vacuum hose leak / restriction EVAP Canister purge valve failure

What does Evap pressure sensor failure means. ihave 97 ford escort, 94,000 miles

Hi Vanessa,

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P1443 has a "generic" description of "Very Small Or No Purge Flow Condition"
To put it very simply, the Powertrain Control Mdule (PCM) is commanding the Canister Purge (CANP) solenoid to open and purge the fuel vapors from your charcoal canister and fuel tank. Then it "looks" at data from the Purge Flow (PF) sensor to see if if the CANP solenoid complied with its command. This is not occuring as it should. (see the picture below to see how all these parts work together)

Here is a list of the possible causes of this code:
> Leaks in fuel tank, filler cap or vapor hoses
> Wiring harness circuits (CANP SIG, PF, PWR GND, VMV and VPWR)
> Faulty Canister Purge (CANP) solenoid
> Faulty Purge Flow (PF) sensor
> Faulty Vapor Management Valve (VMV)
> Faulty carbon canister
> Faulty PCM
The system must be diagnosed to find out which parts of the system are functioning correctly and which are not, so the fault can be found. The computer only knows that the data from the PF sensor is not what it should be - it does not know WHY.

Engine lite on. diagnositc code indicates purged valve C fault. What is this.

DTC P0443 - Evaporative emission control system Canister Purge control valve (CANP) or vapor management valve (VMV) circuit malfunction.
Your cars computer is telling you there is a leak. But most of the time when the system is smoke tested, the tech comes up empty handed. This is because the leak is intermittent. There are several solenoids that can do this on your evap system. The purge valve and the vent valve are the most common. Looks like it is going to be your purge valve.

That said, it could be any of the following:

Bad purge solenoid (internal short or open)
Wiring harness chafing or rubbing another component causing short or open on control circuit
Connector worn, broken or shorted due to water intrusion
Driver circuit inside powertrain control module (PCM) is bad

Code P0443 - Evaporative emission control system Canister Purge control valve (CANP) or vapor management valve (VMV) circuit malfunction. The PCM expects to see battery voltage when the solenoid is commanded off and voltage under 1 volt when the solenoid is commanded on.

Enabling conditions: Run engine off and running self tests to check this code. Blocking Action: This code can block the following monitors: Fuel Control, O2 monitor, Catalyst Monitor, misfire monitor. Testing: Check to see if the purge solenoid will block vacuum when it's off and pass vacuum when it's turned on. Typical resistance is 50 to 100 ω.

Hope helps.

Check Engine Light

Ok i have the same make and model car.And had same problem but i was only needing new hoses. thwe code reader will not tell you if they are bad you just have to check this. The purge valve and canister is located under hood on passenger side behind bumper. look behind the light through the openings. You have to raise car up and do the repairs from under the bottom of the bumper. On passenger side under hood above the wheel fender and between the engine you will see a emmision line about the size of a pencil leads to the purge valve. the valve cost about $18.00 and canister cost around $75.00 at auto zone. The canister is the square box and sometimes you can take apart and clean it and put back together and it should work fine.
