If your car is not fuel injected i.e. it has a carburetor, it may need tuning.

My 2003 chevy Silverado truck keeps losing power at a steady speed. If I either stay in the gas or I let out it doesnt. It never dies it only loses power & I have to coast of the road then turn it off,...

Angela, My guess is that a fuel filter is plugged, or clogged or faulty fuel pump. It lets enough fuel through at low idle but as you increase speed there is not enough fuel passing through line. Any check engine lights on? If so take to auto parts store and have them do computer check and write down what codes are showing as faulty. They do for free...if you feel guilty for doing it for free, buy a quart of oil from them. Then take to shop with your fault codes listed. If no fault codes...take to Chev dealer and have them do fuel pressure reading...they simply screw on pressure tester to what looks like a tire valve on fuel rail on motor(Scraeder valve) If pressure low have them replace fuel filter. Least expensive. It could be fuel pump or screen on fuel pump clogged. I would do only filter first (cheapest) If fuel pump, you would want to replace filter as well. Good luck....get it fixed..it won't heal itself, and the sooner the better...you don't want it to stall in traffic or pay tow charge!

you car is fitted with a "no fuel"system,so when you take your foot off "no fuel" goes to the engine untill it reaches 1200 revs.then it will allow fuel to flow to keep tickover/smoothness.(its computer controlled)you need to get your car onto the diagnostic computer,(skoda/seat/vw/audi)so you have the codes/items that need to be sorted. The tdi engine was one of the first engines that VW computerised and it is very reliable/powerful,compared to the peugeot/citroen engine.(briefly, the fault is not just a switch/cable),
