If collant take over filled (over high mark) could this cause sensor problems as engine surges when hot.Not loosing any coolant 2000 chev lumina 70,000 miles. Upper intake manifold gasket replaced along with thermostat and pcv valve (leak) System blead. Car normally runs better with heat turned on. air conditioner compressor bearings making loud noise. Radiator fans comming on about 200 degrees.

Raise the car front end as high as possible with a floor jack, fill the coolant tank to the top, run the engine until it reaches just short of overheating, shut it down and run water over the radiator, this will burp the air out. Repeat as needed. Don't let the coolant recovery tank run dry during procedure.
a leak in coolant system will cause air pocket in the coolant system around the engine coolant temperature sensor.coolant sensor is a thermistor in which when hot cool cause it resistance decrease which affect the voltage from sensor to pcm which will cause engine coolant to turn on.if coolant level okay, check coolant fan fuse and relay, if all is good, engine coolant temperature sensor could be bad or have vechicle code scan for pcm problems it control the coolant fan.fill coolant system to correct level make sure engine coolat reservoir is at full cold mark and not empty.fill coolant system check for leaks, refill coolant overflow jug back to full cold mark dont over fill, if coolant overflow stay empty you have leak either its leaking or you have radiator hoses or radiator leaking coolant.when coolant overflow jug run dry it cause air get in coolant system causing overheating problems.
SOUND LIKE ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL LOW.CHECK COOLANT SURGE TANK.IF LOW MORE LIKELY RADIATOR COOLANT LEVEL LOW.ADD COOLANT TO COOLANT SURGE TANK UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT FULL COLD MARK DONT OVERFILL OVERFLOW JUG.
Two things; 1) check the coolant level of the coolant overflow. Sometimes when the coolant level is low it will trigger the check engine light to come on. 2) If the car is running hot or high check the thermostat. These are the least expensive ways to go, before any costly repairs.
fill at radiator there are 2 bleeder screws 1 located on thermostat housing and 1 located to left at water pump housing. open when engine is warmed up to bleed air and refill radiater after engine cools.
a bad coolant sensor not a serious problem that can cause engine damage. but it will make it run real bad ,use alot of fuel ,hard start, ruin your cat converter, etc.they arent that expensive and are easy to put in.
think of your coolant sensor like your choke.it tells the computer how warm/cold the engine is and then compuer when it thinks cold gives more gas or hot and gives less gas.if comuter dont know temp of engine it has to guess and they are always wrong.
coolant sensor bad computer has no way of knowing engine temp
no fan comes on when engine cold start up .but it will come on when you turn on air conditioning or defrost on .if engine idling a while when temp get 190 degree the fan will kick on.if over heating you got air in system .wait until cools check coolant add more .crank engine let it idle few. minutes when start warming up turn off engine wait a while before removing radiator cap so you wont get scald.add more coolant .crank it again starting warming up turn off engine wait a while .add coolant .keep doing this procedure until your coolant stop dropping off .if you do this more than 6 times you got a leak some where.check crank level for signs.if oil level higher than normal.if everything looking good.when engine cool make sure add coolant to over flow jug cold level mark.
