It feels like turning the key without holding down the clutch... no turning, no clicking, nothing... sounds easy enough, i took the battery (deka) in to be recharged... hooked it up... and found my self in the same place.... I tried to jump start it yesterday with no luck... everything works just no turning from the engine... I need help i have a feeling its something easy... i have never had any starter problems this is the first time this happened... I checked the voltage on the battery and it appears to be fine.  I do not know where to start... Ignition Key? Neutral safety switch? starter?

Check the starter fuse. Could have popped, and would explain the trouble.

On a 2005 chevy cobalt 2.2L manual

it's a manual means my transmission is manual transmission?
with a left foot clutch ,the clutch switch is bad above the pedal clutch
that switch enables the starter relay just like all cars, manual
so you an not start engine in gear.

those other problems are other causes.
IMMO key must not be ignored. padlock
thee users guide tells you what the lamp does. (lost that?)
lost the second ignition key? from when car was new.
some cars dim HL lamps to have extra power to crank the engine, a super good features on all cars with it.
you just buy a dead car, or did it just fail out of the blue.??????????
learn what RAP is in the manual.?
key off radio works for delay10mn them or ends door open
page 2-18 in the manual

now IMMO words same manual free, to all chev. owners.
Page 2-15 actual
to start the engine closes door or IMMO Passlock
will fail.
Your vehicle is equipped with the Passlock®
theft-deterrent system.
Passlock®
is a passive theft-deterrent system. Passlock®
enables fuel if the ignition lock cylinder is turned with
a valid key. If a correct key is not used or the ignition
lock cylinder is tampered with, fuel is disabled
During normal operation, the security light will go off
approximately three seconds after the key is turned to
RUN following an engine start.
If the engine stalls and the security light flashes, wait
until the light stops flashing before trying to restart
the engine. Remember to release the key from START
as soon as the engine starts.
If the engine is running and the security light comes on,
you will be able to restart the engine if you turn the
engine off. However, your Passlock®system is not working properly and must be serviced by yourdealer.

I havea1991 toyota corolla stationwagon that while i disconected the botom ignition harness that is located on the bottom of the key ignition , accidentally grounded the blue whire that has a red stripe ,...

The BLUE/RED wire from your ignition switch provides power to your cigarette lighter and your radio via the 15 Amp "CIG" fuse and the 7.5 Amp "RADIO" fuse in the fuse block under the left end of the dash in the kick panel.

However, this wire will not have any power with the ignition switch removed and therefore would not have been able to blow any fuses with the switch removed. The two fuses that the BLUE/RED wire go to will also not cause your engine to not start.

If your radio does not work and your engine does not start, you probably accidently grounded the WHITE wire. This is one of the TWO power wires going INTO the ignition switch. The other power wire is the BLACK/RED.
The WHITE wire gets power from the 40 Amp "AM1" fuse and the BLACK/RED wire gets power from the 30 Amp "AM2" fuse. Both of these fuses are located in the F.1 fusable link box in the engine compartment at the battery.

I was sitting at a stop light and the car died and smoke came from steering column ever thing else works light radio etc but when you turn the key there is nothing no idiot lights no miles nothing the car...

Maybe the ignition switch burned up. A lot of juice travels through them and it has happened.
What is confusing is, lights will work without the switch. You should be able to turn lights on without the key in the ignition. But a radio normally needs the ignition turned to ACC (accessory) or ON. And some when left on don't turn off with the key off until the door is opened.

Possibly the ignition melted and is affected to where the radio still gets power as if it was in the ACC position

My 2005 Saturn ION (4 cylinders) won't start. With the ignition key turned, I get multiple clicks. I can get radio and dashboard lights until I try to roll down a power window. Then every shuts down. I...

If the starter cranks but the engine won't start, there could be wide range of problems. Here are some of the most common:
- Problems with fuel delivery system (e.g bad fuel pump, fuel pump relay, clogged fuel screen, etc.)
- Problem with engine electronics (e.g crank sensor, cam sensor, air flow sensor, power relay, engine computer, etc.)
- Ignition system problems, especially on older vehicles with the distributor (e.g bad ignition coil, commutator, rotor, distributor cap, etc.)
- Defective ignition switch
- Problems with vehicle security system
- Internal engine problems (e.g broken timing belt or gear, low compression, etc.)

Make sure that you have fuel in the tank. It may be that your vehicle fuel gauge isn't working properly. The first signs that there is too little fuel in the tank are occasional lugging, loss of power, and a louder, irregular sound of the electric fuel pump coming out from the fuel tank
