Serpentine belt routing for 1987 F-150 with a 4.9L Fuel injected

1999 Volkswagen Passat 1.9 Tdi are of two types. Two piece injection pump sprocket type and single piece injection sprocket type. First diagram is of two piece sprocket and the other one is single piece sprocket type. Tightening torque for the important nuts and bolts are also shown in the diagram.

1. Rotate drive belt tensioner mechanism upward, away from drive belt using a 1/2 inch breaker bar.
2. Remove serpentine drive belt.
3. Reverse procedure to install. Refer to figure below for serpentine drive belt routing.

2.8L and 3.1L Air Pump Belt

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Loosen the air pump.
3. Remove the worn belt.

To install:

1. Adjust the belt to specifications and tighten the pump mounting bolts.
2. Connect the negative battery cable.

2.3L Power Steering Belt

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Loosen the adjustment bolts.
3. Remove the power steering belt from the pulley.

To install:

1. Route the belt around the pulley.
2. Adjust the belt to specifications, then tighten the adjustment bolts.
3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Remove the belt guard or coolant recovery reservoir as required.

2.0L Engines

The accessory drive belt for 2.0L engines has no provision for manual belt adjustment, since these engines use an automatic belt tensioner. Drive belt slack is taken up by the automatic tensioner.
Movement of the automatic tensioner assembly during engine operation is not a sign of a malfunctioning tensioner. This movement is the tensioner self-adjusting and is required to maintain constant belt tension.
The belt tensioner has a belt length indicator. If the indicator marks are not between the MIN and MAX marks, the belt must be replaced.
