Call a local mechanic to have a look as it could be anything from a problem with the chipped key to electronc module ,if no spark then check the coil pack which has the module mounted underneath it on this year car its called a different model name here in europe i cannot remember whats called ,siroco i think but its the same car with a manual box and a 1.6 engine

Testimonial: "IVE DONE ALL I CAN THINK OF... IVE DONE JUST AS YOU SAY. AND I HAVE ALL THE RIGHT POWER INTO THE COIL PACK AND NOTHING OUT, DOES THAT MEAN A BAD COIL PACK OR IS THE SECURITY JUST SHUTING US DOWN. ALSO THE KEY WILL OPEN THE DOORS, AND START THE CAR BUT NOT THE TRUCK? ALSO NO KEY FAB, IS THIS PART OF THE PROBLEM?"

No i think its the ignition module ,in the bottom of the coil is the ignition module so just replace the whole unit

1997 Jetta-doesn't start in warm weather

it could be the coil pack or even your immobiliser. try disconnecting your immobiliser. they seem to have bad-parts/dry-joints in them after a few years.

My car cranks over but wont start

Check for a reset switch located in the trunk of most cars. Many cars have a small cover and the switch is under the cover. This switch is for the purpose of cutting off the fuel in case of an accident. If you see a red bitton sticking up, press it to reset the fuel pump.
